I did it! 230 m/s Hyperion!

Post by Nick Northern »

I know other threads exist about this same subject, but I was so excited about rolling a 230 m/s overtuned Hyperion in the Poisoned Paranid start, that I needed to post! Also, this is for 3.0 X3tc.

Some notes to actually make this thread useful to others...

Hyperion rolls random speed, acceleration and turning, as well as what software, how many fbl's/drones and marines it loads. Some Hyperion's loaded with MkII drones, some with drones, some with a few fbl's, some with lots. Marines varied between 2 and 4, zero stars and 4. Hull polarization device did load on quite a few of these, but unfortunately not om my final 230 m/s one.

Another interesting fact is, the Advanced Perseus you get with the Hyperion also can be overtuned! I didn't know that! It also has variable acceleration and turning.

Here are the numbers for my rerolls on the Hyperion. I only started to keep track of the Advanced Perseus numbers 2/3rds of the way through my Hyperion rerolls because, again, I had just noticed that the Perseus also can be overtuned.

MAX SPEED - ACCELERATION - TURNING - # OF TIMES ROLLED

169.1 - 15 - 6.2 - 35
169.1 - 15 - 6.5 - 4
169.1 - 15 - 6.7 - 1
169.3 - 15 - 6.2 - 6
175.8 - 15 - 6.2 - 4
182.6 - 16 - 6.2 - 3
189.4 - 16 - 6.2 - 4
191.1 - 17 - 6.2 - 1
196.1 - 17 - 6.2 - 2
202.9 - 18 - 6.2 - 2
209.7 - 18 - 6.2 - 2
230 - 20 - 6.2 - 1 <-------- YAY!!!!

Advanced Perseus (figures incomplete)

209 - 33 - 62.6 - 16
228 - 36 - 62.6 - 2
237.5 - 38 - 62.6 - 1
247 - 39 - 71.1 - 1 <-------- Loaded same time as my 230 m/s Hyperion!!!! Kept it of course!
256.5 - 41 - 62.6 - 1 <--------Nice but loaded with a 169.1 m/s Hyperion so I didn't keep.

65 total loads for the Hyperion/Perseus.

I hope this info is useful to someone thinking about doing the Poison Paranid start. Keep loading till you at least hit over 200 m/s. It is so worth it! The overtuned Perseus is an added bonus, as it can turn out to be the fastest commonwealth M3 in the game!

Congrats on a nice reward for a a ton of waiting around. I know I couldn't stand to load as many times as you did.

One note, the Mamba Raider is 266m/s, so its still slightly faster, but with a quarter of the shields.

Congratulations!
I've been flying my 223m/s-Hype now for about 300 hrs and I like it.

But - and I say this in behalf of players who are desperately trying to get a >200 m/s-Hyperion - you can hardly use speed above 200 in combat situation. When fighting a typical Q-patrol I normally reduce my speed to about the normal speed of the Hyperion (~169m/s). You kill the enemy M3 - M5 faster; if you go at full speed you will circle around the Xenon fighters with very narrow windows for a good shot.

In infight with the Q you reduce speed to < 85 , use strafe and stay in the blind spot.

Of course speed makes travelling or fast intervention more easy, but fighting in an overtuned Hyperion at lowered speed is not what overtuning is meant for ;)

Mine is 209. I always enter into combat at full speed. If armed with 6 CIG's the first broadside takes the shields of an M3 and the second destroys the ship. Q's can be a headache so the extra speed allows for more favourable firing positions. Have recently exchanged 2 CIG's for energy bolt chainguns. Not as much punch but stays in the fight with extra energy for longer. The trade off is worth it.
Split now give me death? Nah. Just give me your ship.

Congratulation from me too.

Like zazie I have also the speed problem... killing/hunting M7/M2/M1 is a suicidal game, but nontheless funny. ;-)

Exploring and deliveries are a lot easier with this setup.

I needed around 30 reloads for a 250.3 Hyperion. I wanted some more steering, so I had a weekend full of reloads. After 300 reloads (I took notes on a list!), the best steering I could get was 7.5 but with max speed 172.something ("only 172.?" ;-) ).

In the end I used my fresh 250.3 Hyperion until now (3-4 Ingame-Days).

For everything else follow my signiture...

I never really bothered with the speed, I don't use it as a personal ship so the extra speed just makes it move towards those other useless fast ships that keep flying past their target before they get a full broadside, just look at the springy, speed kills its combat effectivness.

The hyperion is my favorite M6 but only because it owns the rest of the field while it is at its original speed. I can,t see the personal apeal unless you use it as your own ship but for me as a commander the reloads are not really worth the effort and I tend to just go for something that is around 150 speed. In the end 1 fast M6 is not going to compete in a large scale battle unless you fly it yourself and keep running away.

Thanks for the congrats guys! I did know you can rarely get above 230 m/s for the Hyperion, but I was looking for something above 200 m/s + any overtune on the Advanced Perseus, since I love those ships and a faster one is a nice bonus.

I use them together. The Advanced Perseus is docked in my Hyperion, which is my personal ship. The reason I worked hard for a good fast one was, it would be my main personal ship from now on, and I do a lot of traveling in sectors for combat missions of all sorts. Hyperion does nothing badly, and everything well. It has the shields and laser battery to slug it out with M3 - some M7's. For M4/M5 I use wasps/hurricane missiles. For some M7's and all capital ships, I use Hornet or Thunderbolt's. I will get Wraiths for it later on.

Because I use missiles so much (and drones too), I wanted the Hyperion for its enormous cargo bay. To me, it handles more situations than a Springblossom, and as the cargo bay is enormous, it carries a LOT of missiles! (and since they are mostly commonwealth missiles, you can take advantage of this right away in your game)

More speed allows me to run from most things I'd rather avoid, or skirt around them as I use missiles. I also slow down in some situations to keep my target in my gun sites, but to me, speed is really important if you want to control distance from your targets when using a lot of missiles.

Congrats! I've been using a 230m/s Hype for a while. The extra speed is nice for certain combat situations. For example, I like to do boom and zoom runs against the solitary Q's that seem to pop up all over the universe in my current game. One pass with ISR's knocks down most of the Q's shields. I then loop around, switch to CIG's and the second pass toasts the toaster.
