Aran BUG. (un-mmodified)

ok manage to capture the aram (unfocused jump drive)

the ship cannot be seen in the sector information.

however its there, check the pick above and you will see the triplex scanner working. but you cannot see the ship itself on the sector.

the only way to order the thing is via "my property" screen. see screen below

how can this be fixed?

Edit: you can see the ship itself moving in sector, hoever you cannot target it. (you can repair, dock, trade. transfer stuff (As long as you use the property screen to issue the orders to it.

How did you get it? Ive never been able too.

Seems to me that you're really not meant to be able to capture it, given the obstacles. If that's right, you may have to live with it, or find another way around the issue (such as reverse engineering it, which was mentioned.) Fixing an issue which occurred because you worked around a game boundary may not be high in the devs priorities. :wink:

I don't know whether that's the case or not though...

i understand. but no one knows when something is intended or not. since there is a lack of official reply.

for example, many people reported an issue with the unfocused jumpdrive. deleting transporter device and other wares. i ended up knowing (thanks to carlo) that the behaviour is not a bug. its intended and programmed in a way so there is chance for that to happen...

is the developer makes a goner ship (unique) appears and can be accesed using a Goner reward (no other way) . must have its purpose (thats what logic dictates to me)

the obstacle itself can be intended. probably it might be a broken ship that needs to be RE, so you can have a fully functional ship? there can be many theories.

so to sumarize and make this short. can ANYONE at egosoft tells if the Aran is working as intended (the means to get it?)

That ship was included to be a unique ship, found only in the UFJD sectors. Obviously something is not right with it and it is under investigation.

He said it was "under investigation", not that it was getting fixed--they might decide to close the loophole that allows you to capture one of these ships in a vanilla game. :-)

Fixing it is as easier that just reset the flags that any ship may have once boarded, since the Aran is flaged as invisible.

Addicionally they need to add a check to the UFJD sector so no more Arans are generated once you have one.

either way, a bug might get fixed and it is always a good thing (right?)
two options :

1. end the posibility of capture it (if it is considered a bug)
2. end the not targetable stuff : (if it is considered a bug)

so i guess people should get one, just in case the Unique ship promotion ends.

a bit of topic of tech support:

but logic dictates : why put wares on it when created? (in this case Energy cells)? so you can destroy it and loot a few cells that kick in in every sector when you use the UJD? sorry i think there is more to it. otherwise, you just put the thing like valhalla to never spawns.

Occasionally you'll come across weird stuff in UFJ sectors. I once found a giant Tiki Doll or something. These doodads are there to be shot for Energy Cells, they serve no other purpose.

Seeing as that is what the Aran is for (rather than acquisition of the ship itself) I'm pretty certain that if the Aran does ever become capturable it will not be through UFJ sectors.

Most likely the Egosoft team will make it unboardable (an easy fix) or replace the Aran with something else that isn't a ship (also an easy fix). Either way the days of the player-owned Aran will be numbered.

i havent seen a tiki doll. (is it capturable? :) )

there is quite a few people RE the thing. and people owning it . and flying it.

besides we are assuming the worst. (the fix could be different .(you never know :) )

@ Targ: Why do you think the Goner Aran should not be capturable? From it's specs it is little more than a mobile equipment dock at the moment.

Simply because that is what Egosoft intended when it was placed in the UFJ sectors. If the Aran were meant to be available to the player it would be a unique end-of-quest reward. It would also have no turrets or weapons as a Goner ship - as it is it is covered with useless turrets.

Which does not explicitly imply intent that it was not to be captured, and infact seems to indicate that it was meant to be found and captured. And believe me it aint a simple walk up to and knock on the door capture.

I kind of see what you are getting at but what about all the other unique ships scattered around the universe that are not quest rewards (e.g. Blastclaw Prototype, Falcon Sentinel (?), Advanced Barracuda, etc)?

Well there are other examples of ships with useless turrets... not just the Aran... in fact there is a potential use for them as viewing galleries to assist in the command of your ships for instance.

As for things being inconsistent there are other examples such as the OTAS Boreas being called a "Light" destroyer when in fact it is probably the Heaviest destroyer in the Commonwealth pantheon.
