These look sweet! Thanks for converting them. Two questions:

Are they of a higher resolution than the original TC backgrounds? Sometimes the defaults can be low-res enough that I can actually 'see' the cube that it's wrapped around.

This should work okay if it's the .dat one number lower than the script editor, right? I combine all of my mods into 07.dat and let the Script Manager take 08.dat. It doesn't load any background type files though.

As for the resolution, that a good question to which i don't know the answer (Realspce will know).... as for the cats, what youre suggestion should be ok, it's prettymuch how mine is set up and i have no probs :)

I read something somewhere about someone saying something about RealspaceBackgrounds increasing framerate?

For the record this mod will drop your average FPS by 5-10 frames. If you leave it running and let the stars twinkle away for 2 or 3 hours, the game slows to a 1frame per second crawl.

You were warned.

Hmm. Thats weird, i've had the game running foe upwards of 6 hours, with no change to my performance.

Maybe it was just me then but when I uninstalled it I was back to my normal framerate.

I guess it depends on machines.

I dont like the sound of twinking stars though.

Just the snow on this forum for a couple of days over xmas reduced my computer to an apple 2 in terms of not being able to keep up with my typing speed.

The twinkling stars are not the cause of the performance drop. They are just a side effect of the way the engine is scaling the backgrounds. They are a bit higher res than the defult ones. The stars are becoming smaller than 1 pixel so they appear to 'twinkle' when you turn your ship.

I got the FPS issue too but until reading your replies I thought I was nuts. I actually reinstalled it too, didn't have the FPS drop anymore and am now playing at my normal framerate. I am getting some strange stuttering that I didn't have before but my game is getting a bit complex so I figured that was it.

I'll try removing the BGs again tonight and see if it improves anything.

Well...here's a temporary link until he updates his. Contains a text file with hashes in it to test the download if you want. That doesn't need to be installed in the TC directory.
