[CANCELLED] Transcend I for TC

Post by Observe »

Some of you may be familiar with the Transcend mod series for Reunion. We are making excellent progress converting to Terran Conflict, and expect Transcend I release for Terran Conflict within a few weeks. Transcend II will be released for TC soon after Transcend I. Then we will work on our "Grand" Ascension mod. :D

Here is pic of Evader Frigate in TC:

One of the glaring aspects lacking in Terran Conflict is the lackluster Terran race interaction and functionality. Transcend I has always contained the Terran sectors, so we will be adding content for more robust Earth sector trading etc, as well as other Terran enhancements. :)

Nice work Observe! Can I ask what shader that frigate is using?

Thanks Apollo911! I don't remember which shader I used for the Frigate, and I don't have access to my files at the moment. In any case, it's whatever I used with it for Reunion.

I did notice right away that ships converted from Reunion to TC without any changes (other than required for compatibility) do look much nicer in TC. :)

Looks cool Observe, they definitly look better in there.

I have a copy of it now also, trying to find a way to import the stock stuff into 3ds.

I'm guessing Dbox tools are still incompatible :?.

anyone know how to get the pbd's converted?

Gonna definitly try out your mod in TC Observe.

I *think* it should work the same with pbd/bod conversions as it did in Reunion.

I don't currently have max installed, but I'd bet the tools will still work.

X2BC I think is the name of the converter.

FYI: Yes, x3bc and Dbox are still compatible.

Using current (Reunion version) Mod Manager for extraction, I simply extract without decompression, then I use 7-zip (WinRar or whatever) to expand the files. If it's a compressed (.bob) file, I then use x3bc for convert to .bod

With a few "tricks" it's easy enough to get the old Mod Manager working in conjunction with the new Editor for the most part.

As we convert Transcend galaxy map over to TC, we are replacing various Terran sector planets with those from Transcend Reunion. This because we feel some of the new TC Terran planets are not as good as our originals. Here are a couple of examples:

Earth - Transcend version more colorful:

Moon - Transcend version stands out better with more detail:

In addition, some of the TC backgrounds are rather poor, so we'll be using some of our own, and also some of the RealSpace backgrounds as replacements. :)

As a side note, we are eliminating the TC Earth sector Torus, and populating Earth sector with shipyards etc.

Thnaks for the info, observe, I had a feeling Dbox would work, Have not tried it yet, I take it I would also have to use the TC Tships and stuff for it to go?

Yes, you need to use the new TShips etc for TC mods because of changes.

I got the first ship from pirates working in TC, it actually looks better there. Have a problem with the Tships though, It does not give me the option to fix what weps the ship can use.

I'm guessing some of the weapons have been taken out to be replaced by the new ones, however in the Tship weapon list nothing appears, any ideas? :?

If I can sort this I may be able to make two demos for the pirates mod, one for X3 and one for TC.

Make sure you have "raw" uncompressed, unencrypted Types files for TLasers, TBullets, and TCockpits in your game data files. Then the Editor will be able to find weapons references. Keep in mind that Doubleshadow has already fixed this problem and will be releasing another Editor update soon. He (DS) is also working on new Mod Manager - so I expect we'll have the full set of Doubleshadow tools in working order before very long :)

Did you place those text files back in the game data files? Did you delete the packed files from the data files? Basically you are replacing the text files in the game with uncompressed, unencrypted files so the Editor can read them.

So what your saying is to delete the packed files and substitute them for the uncompressed ones?

And location you are on about, do I place the uncompressed files into the mini mod also?

I'm a little confused sorry

Yes, that's basically it. I appologize for the brevity of my explanations. I'm at work and have limited time to respond.

I suggest you delete and replace the files in the main game data files rather than the mod files.

Good for you =DC=Shadow. Congratulations! I'm happy to see other modders getting a handle on converting to TC. :D

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. :)

Note: Don't worry about this thread deviating from Transcend. The main thing is that modders learn what's needed to get their respective mods working with TC. Transcend will have new thread when released.

happy to see you're already at work on the new game! :)

what are its potentialities? mean, did they improve on some important aspect for modding?

as for now I still dont own a copy but would be happy to translate my backgrouds in it.

since you're already experimenting it let me know if I can do it without the game...I'm very disappointed they let the backgrounds onf reunion and from the pics I see also planets are quite unchanged! :( ... just a better halo on atmosphere's edges would have improved the visuals alot.
