[SCRIPT] Player Friendly Equipment Docks (20/04/2007)

Post by voxol »

Player Friendly Equipment Docks
By Voxol.

With this plugin you can fund a group of out-of-work technology specialists to build their own Equipment Dock. New products are automatically added to the product list as ships land at the station and are scanned for new tech.

SPK: ---Download---

Readme follows:

Code: Select all

===========================================
Name:		Player Friendly Equipment Docks
Version:	V1.0
Author:		Voxol
Updated:	20/04/2007
===========================================

With this script a new BBS ad. will become available, "Argon tech specialists seek second chance". If you accept, a new Equipment Dock will be created in the same sector as your ship's homebase (so remember to set it before accepting the ad.). This Equipment Dock is always friendly to you and has no notoriety effects, so you can buy any technology it stocks.

However, initially the only technology available is rudder optimization, engine tuning and cargo bay extension. All other technology must be scanned from docked ships before being added to the product list. Any time a ship docks (NPC or player-owned), it is scanned for technology not currently stocked, and the specifications reverse-engineered and added to the product list.

Notes:
- The cost is 50% more than the price of an Argon Equipment Dock.
- Only tech wares are reverse engineered (e.g. Jumpdrive, Fight Command Software, SETA, etc), no other wares can be added.
- As with all Equipment Docks, you can still sell weapons, shields and missiles to it, even though they are never stocked.

============================================

Change log:

1.0
- Initial release.

============================================

Technical:
Text page:  8702

This is a simple script that seems to work nicely with my Player Friendly Shipyards (and in fact reuses some of its code). Any suggestions for improvements or tweaks are most welcome.

Enjoy!

Can you have more than one EQ dock?
Do the NPCs buy any of these wares from you for profitsssss?

The station doesnt belong to you, its a place for your ships to get upgraded (and repaired i think) by a nutral race, if your a pirate player or some such i think

OK. As mentioned, you dont own the EQ. You can have more than one, though once one is built the BBS entry will become much more rare. NPC ships will dock, but I dont think the AI is smart enough for NPCs to buy tech upgrades. Certainly any script that searches for a certain upgrade (e.g. FSUP) will use it. In any case, you dont gain anything from any sales it makes.

Upgrades, as mentioned, yes. Repairs, no... you need a shipyard or HQ for that.

The reason for the script is the lack of any way to get tech upgrades through the HQ or player-owned EQs (without seperate scripts). My whole focus is on finding a way to go to war without finding that you have no access to the technology you need because of notoriety issues.

Dammit. Updated download link, On the surface Sharelor seems like the perfect file server, but this is the second time I've found a file I've uploaded has been deleted randomly. A word to the wise!

Using my personal webspace like I was before - not supposed to use my web space for hosting files though... if anyone has a better hosting suggestion I would very much welcome it.

Voxol,
love your PFSY script. Simply amazing. Best thing since sliced bread!

But this PFED is pretty expensive just for a non-weapon wares ED. Perhaps better than nothing, especially when player is so friggin' flush with cash he knows not what to do with it..

Suggestion: When ship docks at PFED with new weapon or other ED ware,
the dock queries player as per PFSY protocol, asking "Do you want this item copied?" For 200-500% items original cost.

The idea here is that by the time player has 100mil to shell out for a PFSY, and the 80mil for a PFED, he's probably interested in convenience, 'cause he's got a big empire, and not much inclination for micromanaging anymore.
With PFED as it is, he's got to send his ships produced at the PFSY to the PFED for rudder/engine tunings, etc. THEN send them to another player-owned ED for weapons, etc.

So please make it a one stop shop. Charge 120mil for the setup fee, or high prices for RE goodies--I don't care.

Oh, and if possible please increase the ED's capacity for key wares, like 25Mj, 125Mj shields, AHEPT's, MD's, etc. It's such a hassle when sending batches of 10 M3's over for outfitting..and 3 or 4 of 'em clean the place out.

Thanks,

tatakau wrote:I think this is a brilliant idea! Though I do have some issues with it. I docked my player ship to it, and now the EQ dock seems to sell all the Law Enforcement Licenses and Goner Insurance. Any way to remove those?

LOL, whoops. Err, you can use a script to 'remove product from factory' to get rid of them one time. Then you will need to edit the script to make a special case for licenses and insurance (and other tech wares as well that are listed in the wrong category ... think quantum tubes, microchips and slaves are actually classed as tech wares).

As I've said in previous threads, I dont have time right now to work on my scripts for the forseable future. If anyone wants to make these changes and post an updated version, or even take on the project as their own and add to it, I'm more than happy to see that.

Player friendly equpment dock

Post by John McG »

I have added the 'Player friendly equpment dock' script OK to my Plugin Manager', but nothing seems to have happened.
Do I need to activate it, if so how?
Should I get a message from a station bulletin board?
Thanks.

Yeah, it's a BBS message offering you the chance to help some ex-argon workers gain employment(something like that anyway).

When you get the msg, you need 96mill-ish and a station in the sector you want the EQ.dock to be placed in. Set your current ships homebase to the station and accept the offer.

Love the script, makes the PHQ workable when at war with the Teladi, Argon and Paranid. Quick observation though; I find the PFED will purchase/spawn Novas that fly around the station presumably to protect it. One or two isn't bad but 30 is. They are blocking my ability to dock ships by their presence and taking up all the docking slots. Is this supposed to happen? Is there a known conflict with another script that causes this behavior? What can be done to eliminate the issue?

I am currently running:

2.5 with Bala Gi mission pack
Xtended 0.7.3
Other minor scripts for Mk3 trader
A host of Xai Corps squadron and Station command scripts.

Wow I had no idea that files were deleted just randomly. That actually never happened to me. I also want to host my files but I am not sure which is the best webhosting provider. So I would also appreciate you opinion on that.
