Love the full body Boron concept. Is the Mission Director news new, or is
it common knowledge and I just missed it somewhere? Either way, it sounds
pretty exciting. Kinda wished I'd jumped on XML when I had the chance a
while back.
Abyss: Eh? Sorry, I think I nodded off for a moment.
 Nice.

X Race makeovers: X species up close

Is that mean new game next? I'm kind of worry, is it for must had online or it's for single player since I'm in for single player? Is it X-4?? I'm must missing.

Never thought of the Boron as sea-horse-like, always thought they were more squid-like. Interesting....

The race concepts are intended for future projects. About time if you consider that most of the current race pictures/videos date back as far as 1998 ;)

When and in what projects you'll find the final versions of these concepts is not yet determined.

What is wrong with the old characters? They look great even the ones from XBTF look better than the cutscenes in X2 and probably even better than X3? They just don't have any canon representation beyond a head and some shoulders. Please don't change the paranid they are so much easier to hate at the presit rings trading station as they are lmao. Kinda reminds me of that character Lur of the planet nintendoo 64 from futurama hehehe!!! All they need is a cape hehe:-)

I can imagine what the borons may look like but that idea of the sea horsy has to go lol and why would the humans er uh... argons look so different? Exposure to some weird space radiation perhaps? What would be great is if egosoft would have hired the people that made the talking heads to do all the custscenes for X2 and X3 instead of trying to do it themselves.

It's new.
And it is exciting. :D
XML is extremely easy to learn, and in the MD's case it's more about learning the MD, rather then learning XML. (which isn't hard at all)

I am very glad you guys have finaly been told about the Mission Director (we call it MD). I realy do hope that this will encourage more people to joining L5.

As for the new race concepts. Thats the first time I've seen them. Boron - Good. Paranid - Good. Split - OK but look way too human. Also look a bit like the Wraith from Stargate Atlantis. They look very little like the Split we know and luv!
Come watch me on Twitch where I occasionally play several of the X games

Great newsletter! Some good info. But I don't really care for the new concept art of the races. I agree with esd, the Boron should be more 'squid-like'. And can you imagine those Split saying in a squeaky voice "Split now give you death!". :P Somehow, it just doesn't fit. Oh well.

As for the MD, is this going to eventually be available as a tool to the general Scripting and Modding community? A real shame if not, since so much good content has come out of there, and lot's have been added to the game. Here's hoping. :D

Anyway, thanks CBJ and The Abyss. :)

Thanks, BurnIt!. Wasn't clear (to me  ) in the newsletter, but that's great news. :x3:

Woot ! Thanks for the news about the Mission Director :)

(is it too much to ask if created missions can be run from scripts or if it's 100% independant ?)

The MD is a cool idea, most modders will love it when they see it. Some very easy to follow princples govern its usage.

But like the news letter said, its not all about BBS stuff. So im expecting to see some unique ways missions get offered, perhaps even events that happen to other ships such as traders under attack asking for assistance or factories calling your local patrol for help.

We could be heading anywhere here, exciting times all round :)

As for the races, i like the concepts, just need to put aside what we previously regarded as races. But then again the old elf like split may be less imaginative than the current design.

As you can see from the example, the Mission Director is event-driven rather than being "run" in the sense that a script is run. As a result it is meaningless to talk about "running" a mission developed using the MD from somewhere else, because the mission will run when the defined conditions are met.

I am very pleased... I've watched the change in style for a while... It's nice to see it move further in the direction the universe I love...
