NEWS: X-Universe News 21 with added cockpit goodness
X-Universe News Issue 21 is currently winging its way to subscribers. As well as announcing the 1.4 patch for X³: Reunion, and the two demos, rolling and playable, it also includes information about a rather special mod for X³ which may please those who miss the cockpit view from X²: The Threat.

Imp.-'s "Callback Mod" not only re-introduces the cockpits from X², but also adds 8 new cockpits for Argon ships designed by Imp.- himself. You can read more about the mod in an interview with its author in the X-Universe News. You can find the mod itself on the Bonus Material download page.

So many mods in the forum, and only this one is Bonus Material?CBJ wrote:X-Universe News Issue 21 is currently winging its way to subscribers. Not signed or anything special about it. Why only this one and not others? Is this news?
Please explain this.
Why officially support files (Bonus Material), that you don't officially support (Imp)... and it is not even signed. What a mess... if you officially support this, then sign it.
This so reminds me of X2 with its unofficially official files...
Are there even a single mod that has ever been signed for X2 / X3?

In reply to Teki, I think it is because the cockpits (other than Argon) were actually included with the game itself, Imp just found a way to implement them. The Argon cockpits were the only ones he did on his own.
I think this is why it's the only one there. I'm hoping Ego will someday tweek the old X2 cockpits so they match the rest of the beautiful graphics in X3. Especially since the files were in the game to begin with.

The entire Bonus Pack offered for download for X2 1.4 consisted of scripts developed by members of the community and then tested and signed by Egosoft...your point is?teki wrote:Are there even a single mod that has ever been signed for X2 / X3?

Oh wow! My single peeve about X3 is fixed!
I mean I loved the game even without the cockpits, but it always felt wrong - I could never enjoy the game to it's full. NOW I CAN! Wheee!
I guess it's a big deal to some people like me.
Just one quick question: Does every ship in the game now have a cockpit? You know, TL's, M1's, etc?

I thought the Cockpit Callback mod was by Galaxy....
They shouldnt put up bonus material if it aint officially supported by egosoft as "bonus material" is supose to be signed and to be tweaked by egosoft as has always been for x2 bonus material packs. As far as im aware egosoft did tweak them scripts for the BM pack in x2.

Anyone got an answer for this? I'd really like to know as well. I'm assuming/hoping it won't disrupt my current game. Also if I don't like the cockpits how easy is it to remove them?beach07 wrote:now if i was to use this cockpit mod, would i be able to continue my game from where i left off or will i have to start a new one?

Yes, you can just continue. Says so in the readme.now if i was to use this cockpit mod, would i be able to continue my game from where i left off or will i have to start a new one?
The new Argon Cockpits are beautiful. I've tried the TL, M1 and M2.
Absolutely stunning.
My Mamba Raider now looks a bit lame with the old X2 cockpit though.

Not true...CBJ wrote:Mods cannot be signed.
A mod usually uses the Ttype files. Tcockpits, Tships are the relevant files here and those can be resigned to accept the changes...
It would require adding a custom signed x3files.xml that allows for the changes in the particular Tfiles already used.
Basicly:
Mod\Ttypes\Tcockpits.txt
Mod\Ttypes\Tships.txt
Mod\x3files.xml <- resign the signatures for the files used, and add a new signature the x3files itself (system checking other system).
If a custom x3files aren't allowed to be executed along the mod (I believe it does allow this, can be wrong)... then the customized x3files.txt can be added to the root directory og the game.
There you go, a signed mod.
No matter... I fail to see why Egosoft didn't make these changes themselves officially included in all patches and gave Imp the proper credit for his excellent efforts.

While Imp did a great job with the cockpits, I don't use them myself.
However I find it weird that Egosoft would highlight this and only this (for now), considering how cockpits are so disconnected from the game itself.
How can cockpits exist while u have floating icons all around the edges and digital readouts here and there while having a cockpit dashboard and cockpit readouts?
It would seem more appropriate to say "hey we've got lots of goodies in the Scripts and Modding forum". If it were truly a cockpit addon slash Bonus Material, it ought to be more integrated; there would be some switch to change all readouts to cockpit format and vice versa.
And yes u can use the cockpit mod without affecting ur savegame.
