Lasertower Upgrade Script available now

Please note that all Lasertower in 2.0 now come already with 125MJ shields and hence this script is redundant. :wink:



In X3 (pre 2.0.01) all lasertowers come with 25 MJ shields although they can equip 125 MJ.

This script will add and additional special command to your ship which replaces the 25 MJ shields of all player-ownd deployed lasertowers by 125 MJ shields.


It's not a cheat because for each upgrade 70116 credits will be charged - that's the difference between the average prices of 125 and 25 MJ shields.

Edit: Important Note: thanks to J. Spartan to point out that the upgrade range is restricted to 60 Km. There is no reason for that except my stupidity. If you have LT's outside a 60 Km radius of the sector centre then the script won't work. In the line 'find ship' replace '60000' by 'null' to get infinite range. Sorry for that. E.

its a great script i used it already

just in time because a few hours later a bunch of pirates turned up to loot my wheat farm the 125mj sheilds hold out long enough for the lasertowers to blow them up.

usually with all scripts you have 2 types of files

you have the ones that are made up of numbers, usually 6 numbers, most likly starting in 44
like 441234.xml
that file is the text file and goes into the t directory which u'll find in the X3 directory

the rest of the files will also be .xml, and these go in the scripts directory

Firstly, thanks for all the effort people go to in order to improve the game. Secondly, I can't get the script to work. I have installed it according to the instructions, have a ship with special command software, and 30,000,000 plus credits. When I go to "special commands" there is no "upgrade lasertowers" command there. When I look in the folders the newly installed files have a planet icon. This this correct, or have I done something wrong? All the other files look different, has my computer failed to recignise them?

I got the option to Upgrade LaserTowers under Special command.


How it works?

1) Deploy the LaserTower
2) Target the laserTower
3) Open your ship "Command Console"
4) Select "Special" option
5) Select "Upgrade LaserTowers" option

And the lasertower shields would be upgraded from 25 to 125

#1 The script will only work for X3 and not for X2.

#2 Extract the 447002.xml file into the X3/t folder and the other two files (setup.upgradelt and upgradelt) into the X3/script folder (check the readme.txt for instructions).

#3 It will replace the 25 MJ shields with 125 MJ shields in every lasertower you have deployed already. A corresponding message is send to your log.

If it still doesn't work then check for any violating other scripts or read Burianek's sticky on how to enable scripts (I think activating the script editor is sufficient --> change name to Thereshallbewings).

You don't need 2). Also you can deploy as many as you like and where ever you want (various sectors) and then run the command. It searches the entire X3 universe for your lasertowers and upgrades them if necessary (and if you have the cash to pay for it).

Could 125 be doubled to 250? ;)

Now with 1.3 patch... A single Xenon M was able to destroy 2 LaserTowers of 125 :(

They are not meant to be "invincible" just last longer than a 25mj shielded one. Geesh people want god mod with every patch. The 125mj upgrade is just fine, just have to build more laser towers to protect your property. ;)

Yes, they are noto good against fast targets because the pitch and turn velocities are very low. Use DoubleShadow's Editor to increase p&T to 13.5. You also could increase the shield power generator (my LT's now have 5000 MW).

This is my way of rebalancing 1.3 :grin:

Well euclid how glad i am to have got this script, after upgrading to patch 1.3 it was certainly neccesary to get lasertowers for my factorys. Now upgraded shields to 125 mw, lets see what them khaak destroyers do now.

Just a question before I go buy some laser towers.......Does it matter what you name your towers?? ie. Will it still work without default names?
eg. LT-SPP_East

No problem. The script searches for 'Orbital Laser' owned by 'Player' (in a range of 60 Km only !!! - Thanks to J. Spartan who pointed that out. This range may be not enough if you place your LT far off sector centre)
So it will work irrespectively how you name your LT.
