I think this problem has been around all along, just very rare. I had the same thing happen during an OTAS quest during 1.2.1. The quest name was all messed up and uninformative but as soon as I jumped out of sector it sent me a message about how the ship I was supposed to follow got away.

amirite wrote:Hey guys instead of looking for someone to blame for the Steam patch how about you just be patient.

It's a crazy idea I know but did you know that patience takes very little effort. You just wait! And you don't complain.

I'm not saying the delays on the Steam patches are okay (1.2.1 really did take forever) but it's not like they're just sitting on their asses either. They're a huge company that's crowing fast and they do have priorities. That's life.

You will get your money's worth. Be patient.
A moderator already said that this isn't the topic for talking about Steam, so if you want to show off your moral on others go to the right thread. You'll receive plenty of nice answers there, from customers who are very very calm.

Yes, I saw one Steam thread got locked. Where is the "right" thread. I want to keep an eye on it to find out if Steam patch is available or if something is wrong with my system.

I don't see a Steam releated thread in this forum unless I'm going blinder than I thought.

But any repeat here of the behaviour that got that thread closed, from anyone, will be treated very seriously.

Since I couldn't reply to the Steam thread due to its closure, Valve is the company that owns and developed Steam. Don't forget to factor in Valve Time in your expected time of arrival.

THAT DOES NOT look Good.....

thanks for the post megajohnny

now what are we going to do? we could possibly get the patch in 2009? so patching the steam version can happen next week or next year ,,,

now that looks bad...

seriously is there a way to ask a refund?

thanks.

People like to trot this out, but while an amusing joke, Valve Time traditionally (historically) applies to game release dates, not patching schedules. Yeah TF2 was delayed for... well, years. But Valve patched it as quickly as possible and worked diligently to continue with updates and content expansions.

What I would suggest Steam users do, especially because it appears to me that continued complaints here are being met with a "too bad, so sad, I am going to go enjoy my patched Euro version" attitude, do this:

1) Go to steampowered.com
2) Go to the "Support" option up top.
3) You should already have an account if you purchased TC through Steam, so now click "Ask a Question" up top, in blue.

Now using your best adult words ("omg wen u gonna patch" doesn't fly) compose a scathing question why we need to wait days or weeks on patch distribution, especially considering the diligence Valve shows in system wide deployments for their own titles.

I just did this. Gotta say I feel better.

If all of us (Steam users) do this, then the odds of someone there noticing and expediting the process become non-zero, which is what they remain if we piss and moan here instead of there.

Granted, odds are nothing will happen differently. Maybe they are already working as fast as they can, or they are already drag-assing and could not care less. However at least this way we are complaining to the people who are behind the delay.

In fairness, it should be noted the Valve is a cut above the rest of the industry in terms of responsiveness. While the support at steampowered may suck ass, in most other realms they are a step up. Witness Gabe Newell's recent comments on DRM for example (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20 ... et-it.html) where he directly tells a customer that DRM is '...just dumb".

Who knows, maybe one of us will get a well written response about WHY it takes 4-7 days from an actual authority.

It's not just you. When I am not gnashing my teeth over the Steam delay, I am reading other people's glowing (for the most part) responses concerning the patch, and some of them are indicating performance has increased.

There is now another "right" thread - again, can we please post any steam discussion there, and keep traffic in here to general patch discussions. As I mentioned in that thread though, please stay within the rules this time. :)

Lol,sorry for mentioning it but the performance has been increased dramatically since I have an X1800 Xl & even in some heavy fights there doesn't appear to be any stutter at all.

1.3 thumbs up

Post by Little »

Hi guys,

It took quite i while but i believe the 1.3 patch has done it.

The rebalancing seems about spot on to me and all the major issues seem to have been fixed. I'm going through plot and BBS missions now and they're pretty well balanced and immersive.

Thanks very much to all those involved and obviously worked so hard to get this out there :)

Was it not a matter of a day or two for the hotfix 1.21 to get on steam after the retail patch?

It didn't seem like that long of a wait.

Patience is a virtue. Practice it :)

We still need a patch to tune down reputation gains from finishing fighting missions.

I just went from Boron trusted courier to Kings Knight in about 40 minutes.

Just for comparision, it took a month to do the same thing with X3R 1.3.

Can we please have something in between 40 minutes and a month?

Maybe 6 hours? Perhaps cut the reward for finishing a mission by two-thirds.

Sincere thanks for the Patch. Frame rates and menu "smoothness" are VASTLY improved. The game is far more "playable" now.

Steam and 3.1

Post by sillls »

I see that 3.1 just came out. For those of us whom downloaded the game though Steam. How do you get the update? I was told that you can't downloaded from Egosoft.
