[Question/Request] Mods translation.

Post by mjolnir315 »

Hello

First of all, let me introduce myself. I'm Mjolnir and I'm a French Mod translator from the "Confrérie des traducteurs" (See http://www.confrerie-des-traducteurs.fr ... 56&start=0 for more informations about us).

I'm sending you this request as I'd like, if you give me your agreement, to translate your mods into French. Once translated, this French version of your Mod will be available on the French part of this Forum for French players pleasure. For sure the "Lisez-moi" file (French translation of the "readme" file) will give reference to your original work, I'll only include on it my name as the translator and names of people who'll participate on its translation. I will send it to you too if you want make the translation of your mod available with your mods like an update or an optional download.

I hope to receive from you a positive answer for this translations.

I can only translate from English to French and French to English. So, any help or constructive critics will be appreciated for other language like Russian or German.

Kind regards.
Mjolnir.

in general i dont have any problem with translations of my mods - why should i?

but i dislike the thought of having multiple Versions of my Mods floating around, especially because its very simple to make a Mod Multi-lingual. Just add a "-L033" to any file which was translated and add it to the main mod - done. most common example are the t-files (next to the content.xml the only file which needs to be translated since all Text should be put there), but it seems to work for any file, even pictures/textures
if not stated otherwise everything i post is licensed under WTFPL

Ich mache keine S&M-Auftragsarbeiten, aber wenn es fragen gibt wie man etwas umsetzen kann helfe ich gerne weiter ;)

I wont do Script&Mod Request work, but if there are questions how to do something i will GLaDly help ;)

Very coll to read that. Why should you have any problem with a translation? I don't know. In my opinion, it's a simple matter of respect for the author of the mod to ask for permission to make a translation.
But some creators think we steal their work (Many modders from Skyrim Nexus for exemple).

I agree with you. My goal is not to make a copy of your mods, I prefer send you the translation for a kind of update. Or eventually an optional download. By this way, YOU get the choice of making it public or not.
But some French player should not understand English, that's why i wish make the translations available on the French part of Egosoft Forum.
But, one more time, I send the translation to you first and, only if you agree with that, I should make it available for French players. If you prefer to include it in your files, I should give people a link to it.

I wish my English is not a massacre for you.

Kind regards.
Mjolnir

I've been working on localizing my mod for the next version, and would very much appreciate any corrections or improvements you might make.

I haven't studied french since high school -- I can read it a bit, but I don't have much sense of what sounds crazy or not.

My t-files: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u89p8ffwexxkm ... es.7z?dl=0

Thank you for suggesting this!

What unitrader is saying is that, you can translate it but you shouldn't put it up for download anywhere. What you should do, is send the translated files to him so he can include it in his mod.

If you want to translate my mods, you can send me the translated files and I will put it all together on STEAM WORKSHOP. This is the only place I will allow my mods to be downloaded from and the only version I will support. Feel free to send me the translation files if you plan to translate my mods.

The fact is, a lot of french people (and other languages obviously) don't want to/can't read mods descriptions on Steam Workshop (there should be different languages supported on the platform, but it's not the point here).

So instead, what I think he wants to do is to create a thread of the mod, both with description translated in french, in the french section of the forum, as our good old X3 scripts :)
You just have to add a link on your workshop to the translated thread on the forum, and they lived happily ever after.

I understand, but I think he is saying he wants to translate our mods and upload them somewhere, is what it seems like to me. I do not mind him starting a thread in the french forum where he has a description of my mods in French. He could then send me translated files of the mod which I can upload with my other files to steam workshop. I could also link back to the french forum thread so french people can look or I could just copy and paste the other languages to the description on steam workshop. All of this is okay.

What I wouldn't want is my mod uploaded elsewhere. This is also what unitrader was saying.

To be clear, you are the author, you make the rules. You don't want to see your work in another place, it's ok for me. I prefer that. It's more easy to download files at one place.

To come back to the main subject, the idea was to ask which mods can be translated or not. After, I will follow your rules of release ;).

No problems with people wanting to translate. Sorry if I misunderstood you.
