Ren Otani, commander of the "Pride of Albion" :)

Lol did I miss this? When was it verified? I thought that if Raider480 ever commanded the Pride of Albion, Raider480 would be its commander.

See the current edition of the X-Universe News (released together with the release announcement of X Rebirth):
About X Rebirth

The Supernova changed everything. New enemies are emerging while the universe is rebuilding. The player takes up the role of young pilot-adventurer Ren Otani: Together with his offbeat female co-pilot, he flies the "Pride of Albion"; an aging ship boasting a glorious past. These two characters are destined to play a key role in shaping the future of the X-Universe - Two humans and one unique ship influencing matters of galactic importance. The fate of the universe rests in the player's hands...

So can we name our player character at all? I get that you would need a name for cut scenes/ conversations, like the Brennans from the previous game. But I would prefer if we still get the option to rename our characters in the sandbox universe if at all possible.

I'm not holding my breath. All the previous releases in the X series have been soooo buggy on release that they were virtually unplayable. I'd give it another year before it works properly.
Should be plenty of copies in the bargain bin by then.

well...this has been my favorite game series of all time, with over 2000 hrs in X3TC, over 1500hrs in X3R and around 800+ with X2...I've been holding my breath since 2003 for this game, and this I'm sure (especially if everyone buys a copy) isn't the last version...I'm still holding my breath until the next version...when we can walk around every ship...customize our internal ship components...like building turrets in our capital ship's corridors to help fight off space marines when we engage in hand-to-hand combat....I love this Game!

I really hope Egosoft can pull it off.
My problem with previous X games is that it felt kinda boring to me. It took too much time to travel from point A to B (even with SETA). Characters acted like robots and that broke immersion for me.
But my biggest criticism was the combat. It just wasn't well executed in my opinion.

But from what I can tell Egosoft is well aware of that.
I would like to see more combat footage and interactions with other NPCs.
How do you talk with them? Are all NPCs fully voiice-overed?
Is the following screenshot a real in-game screenshot and can we expect NPCs to look this good?

http://www.egosoft.com/games/x_rebirth/ ... en_023.jpg

What about combat? Does it feel like flying a jet? Is it fast and dynamic like space sims from the past Freespace 2 or Freelancer?

Some in game footage covering this areas would be nice.

Please don't say the collectors edition bonus content is something actually in-game, because I hate it when companies do that.

+ one there is no physical English collectors edition on the shop or do we need to order that from a retailer in an English speaking country?
I used to list PC parts here, but "the best" will suffice!

Guys, it says right in the product description:

"Details regarding an English (UK) Collector's Edition will be announced soon."

Patience! :)

EDIT to add, @daadaa -

If you're going to quote the RSLG maneuver in your sig, please get it right!

It was coined by a user named NUKLEAR-SLUG, who wrote a story about his "Dead is Dead" playthrough of X3TC with a Boron character named "Squiddy McSquid." It's simply "RSLG," not "RASLG" or whatever. THANK YOU! :)
"Will you please get me a couple of things?" ~ Mahi Ma

Every Boron dies. Squiddy McSquid truly lived.
