Where do I start?

Post by moriah888 »

Hi there!

I just bought X3 Reunion 2.0 from the bargain section - it comes with Bala Gi's Research and 2007 Bonus Pack.

What addons / patches etc do I need to make it "current"? Are there any essential must have mods?

Just a point - my gaming PC is not on the internet so I can't install anything that is "steam" compatible...just my laptop is online.

Thanks very much!

"essential" mods are just preference.

mods are what you, the player want changed / added / omitted. so you gotta playthrough it abit to get a feel for what ya want done to it then look around / ask in the reunion modding section.

reunion patches 2.5 is latest.
Just saying it forward: I give everyone 2 posts to make good, in context posts(proper english, as always, is optional). After that I'm ignoring what you have to say in that thread that's directed to what we previously were talking about.

The patches are on the downloads page. The final version of X3R was 2.5. There is nothing Steam-specific in there.

To discuss mods you need to head over to the X3R Scripts and Modding forum. :)

Get the 2.5 patch and the newest bonus pack. The only "must have" "mods" are in the bonus pack. Make sure you are in the right download screen, though, they look similar but won't work in the other X games. :)

There are some big "full mods", but most small ones are referred to as "scripts". The general forum advice is to wait on the big mods and other stuff, until you have some idea what you would want. Otherwise it just makes things complicated.

You don't have to jump into the missions right away, if you don't want to. Start off slow, in the beginning. It takes a little time to see what is what. And, if you go out into dangerous places too soon, you can get your head handed to you in a basket! :o

This is a much bigger place than most games. You can own more than one ship. A lot of them. And you can own your own factory stations. Lots of them.

But it is not as easy either, like prices can change with the supply and demand, which can mess up your plans. On the other hand, when you trade or build factories it also changes the supply and demand, and that can work for you. And other things...

Also, there isn't much of a tutorial in that game, so check out the tutorial vids from the forum listings. A couple of players have done some good ones. And be aware that Egosoft now has a good FAQ page in the main section, I think the forum has links to that, too.

You Have What you need!

Post by David Howland »

If you have Bonus Pack and the latest vanilla (official) patches, you have what is needed to play vanilla (basic) Reunion.
I would strongly recommend playing a game vanilla through first, before getting mods and scripts for the following two reasons:
1. Until you play the basic game you cannot know for yourself what 'improvements' you would like to make. As mods can have detrimental as well as enhancing effects on the game it is important you decide for yourself what mods to use.
2. While playing vanilla, you play a game played by all, you can come to this forum with problems and get good advice from anyone who has played the game. Once you add an unofficial mod the game becomes altered uniquely, no vanilla player can give good advice, if you have problems you should not even put them on this forum but use only the mods or tech. forums and the first thing the tech. forum will ask is that you try removing the mods. In other words if you have a problem you are effectively on your own!
Also after a taste of reunion you may want to try TC as it has more content and is more beginner-friendly.

Thanks for the help - think I'll actually go and get Terran Conflict today as its only dawned on my tiny brain that its the newer version...

Plus the video tutorials I'm watching from another thread are aimed at that version.

Cheers!

Reunion?

Do not throw your Reunion away, many players go back to Reunion after TC finding it a more demanding Challenge.

Better idea, split the difference and get the Super Box. That nets you TC, the patches for Reunion and the first two games.

On the other hand, the X:TM mod for Reunion makes a good bridge between Reunion and TC.

And go read Nuklear-Slug's Dead is Deads for the best TC guide books around.

Good good - got a copy of X3 Terran Conflict 2.0 so I'll bring it up to version 3.1.

Nice to see a big shiny manual for a change instead of all this online manual crap. :D

Still probably would have been better to get the Superbox... ;) That would have netted you X: Beyond the Frontier, X: Tended, X2: The Threat, Another copy of X3: Reunion, X3: Terran Conflict AND the upcoming X3: Albion Prelude.

Hard to get hold of in hard form now though. I have a nice shiny one in a box next to me.

*drool* shinnyyyyy...

X3 Reunion is the best if you wish for logical "ladder" menus but there is 2 type. Main menu and Quick menu.

Going with main menu is the best thing to do.

Storyline and development are also the best with many kind of different gameplays :D
X to X3 is MENU SUPERIOR!

Reunion will introduce you to the X-Universe a few chapters along in the story.

It is exciting, but slow and challenging, with a very steep learning curve.

TC is easier to learn, but still not easy-peasy for the player's first ride in X-space.

That's where we,the community, come in handy with our direct help via the forums or PMs ,or even with the many guides written on various or all aspects of the game.

Welcome to our universe.
