[X3TC]How do I use the Mobile mining ship?

Post by Naferius »

I recently bought a mobile mining base TL class ship and added 8 Mistrals to mine ore and silicon and unload at it's cargo bay. So far so good, but then a problem... How do I sell soo many crates of minerals? The darn thing can only dock at EQ docks, SYs, Corporation HQs and Outposts. Maybe freight drones? That will take forever...

Well . . the "damn thing" is a TL - so it can't dock at stations.
Using TSs to mine for it and then transfer the cargo makes no sense.
But it can help collect the ludicrous amounts required for the Hub Plot.
Once you've got the HQ and your own sector, it can supply the HQ with minerals.
IMHO the ship makes no sense as a miner.
50 TS for the same price do the same work much faster.

You may also send it to 30/0/-30 Scale Plate Green and let it collect Nividium.
Once it's full, sell the thing for +/- 300 Million at the nearest shipyard.
When in doubt, use brute force.

Think of the MMBS as performing and being used exactly like an Argon Mammoth except having an extra turret, a strangely limited option for front and up turret weapon and restricted to Terran weapons elsewhere. It does have a rather nice model though, if a bit long.

What you're doing with it is exactly what it's meant for. Do you have the Bonus Pack?

If you do, then you can use a Commodity Logistics Software External (CLS2), to then load ore and silicon from the MMBS, and sell it at various places that need it.

Get the bonus pack it lets your smaller ships dock and undock the goods unto the TL and you can pack up and move to sell it the same way.

I was thinking of stacking some minerals and selling them, cuz I thought the ship is something more then a TL. I actualy thought it can dock TS class  , but it seems its just a fancy title for a TL that do exactly the same as any other large transport in the game.
Thanks for the Comodity Logistics suggestions, I'll go buy 5-6 Mercury Tankers with Transporter devices so they can take and sell the ore. Also for the Scale Plate Green. Never knew that there are Nividium rocks there. I only know of the Kingdom's End.

Logically for loading TSs from the MMBS to sell wares at stations, it should be enough that just the TL has a Transporter Device rather than every TS needing one. However, going by the BP documentation, a CLS2 would need a Transporter to load into a TL. (Once again just one on the TL should logically be enough). This all depends on exactly how the CLS2 scripts are written and initiated though.

Probably worth trying it first with just the Transporter on the TL to maybe save you some TS fitting-out time and cost (or extra loss if/when TSs get ambushed or collide).

Hi!! Found the tips in this thread very good, I have a question: How do you get the ships to mine the nvidium? I only have ore silicon and ice commands in the mine menu. I have located the nvidium in Scale Plate Green and parked my miner next to it (the ship has the mobile drill and ore collector)

Thanks

Break one or two of the bigger Niv rocks to smallest size yourself then start a ship or more on rock collection close to the debris site. Now go OOS and let it/them get on with it without having to worry about collision avoidance.

I've found that the fastest way to mine Nividium is to just do it yourself. Mobile miners are really slow!

Just blow up a good Niv asteroid, then hop in a large, well-shielded ship with a huge cargo bay and fly slowly through the debris field. You can break up the pieces with your shields and collect all the rocks in a few slow sweeps. Just watch your shields and slow down a bit when they get low.

Its boring and takes a while, but it gets you a whole load of Niv way faster than using any other method.
