At the request of Cpt.Jericho;

I proudly present,

How to set up your battles, XFF style for Dummies!

Introduction

So you want to watch the battles for your self and test your own fleet but don't know how? Well in that case, this guide is perfect for you!

First things first. You're going to need the official XFF map pack and the official XFF script.

Installation

Map Pack

To install the map pack, extract all the maps from the archive onto your desktop or some other easily accessible place.
Once you've done that you're going to want to find your TC directory.
If you have steam, it's probably 'C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\X3TC'
If you have the DVD version, it's probably 'C:\Program Files\Egosoft\X3TC'

Once you've found your directory, make a folder called 'maps'.

After you've made the folder just copy-paste the maps into it.

Script

To install the script, open the 'scripts' folder in your TC directory and copy-paste the script into it.

At this point, if all you want to do is use the save games; you're set. Just download them, re-name them into X01 and put them into 'Documents\Egosoft\X3TC\saves'. Before doing this, you might want to back up what saves you already have in there incase you overwrite a save that you're currently using.

Cheatpackage

If you want to set up your own battles, you are recommended to have this package. For installation instructions and download, check the S&M forum.

Setting up your own battles

To use the XFF script, start a new game and choose 'Custom Universe'.

Another menu should slide up. In this, choose any deathmatch map.

Once your game has loaded, you're going to want to change your name to 'Thereshallbewings' (note the capital 'T'). This enables the script editor.

If you've installed the cheatpackage, now would be a good time to 'install all equipment'. Also, give your self one salvage insurance. Then, turn on god mode, unlimited salvage insurance and supertune your ship a few times.

To activate the XFF script, go to 'Global Commands' under Pilot>Advanced.

Select 'script editor' and the script editor should open up.

Select Ok and a list of scripts should pop up.

Scroll down until you find xff.spawnfleets (or something really familiar to that). Highlight it (don't click on it, just hover your mouse over it) and press 'r'.
A window will pop up asking for what to run it on. Choose 'select object' and the universe map will open. Click on the only sector that is visible then choose your ship. After this, another window will open. Just press enter to run the script.

A new windows will open. It will have the two fleets, and under each, add ships.

To add a ship, first see which fleet you want it to be in. Then choose 'add ship' under the fleet you want to add it to. A new window will open asking how many of those ships you want. Type in a number and press enter. Then you will be taken to the ship selection menu. Scroll through the list to find the ship you're looking for or set some filters by clicking on the different tabs.

Once you've chosen a ship, the cargo menu will show up. In this menu you can choose what you want in your ship(s). Same thing as the ship selection process. Click 'add cargo' and type in how much of the cargo you want. Then choose what you want.
When you are done equipping your ship, click 'done'.

Repeat the above steps until the two fleets are how you want them to be.

After you're done setting up the two fleets, click 'start!!!'.

Enjoy. :D

Hmm, not sure I have any more space left in my sig :P

Besides, this is not really a guide that will benefit the masses so I'll just link to it from the results post.

Nice one!

And congrats on the most prolific thread in the history of X! - No doubt it will become the longest in absolute terms before too long.

Incidentally Egosoft have been actively encouraging people to sign up and test the upcoming patch (which CAN have a HUGE performance boost in some games) and it MAY reduce the lag when two large fleets square up- May be worth considering?

Thanks.

Also, I just messed up

I decided to get a few matches done today so that I wouldn't be crammed for time on the weekend and by mistake I ended up doing Merdocharr vs 007bradz :P

Guess I'll release it as a bonus match.

@gavrushka:
As long as we don't know when 2.7 will be available I'd say we keep XFF I at least for the first round on 2.6. Whatever 2.7 will do, it might alter future battles. Besides, can it be, that you know more than you are allowed to say? ;)
As for the lenght of this thread - there is still a long way to go until we reach the lenght of the music threads or X-T threads. And for XFF II it might be better to open a new topic. I don't think ANYONE would consider to read through 90 pages to come up to speed.
Gosh, this thread is hardly 2 month old!
@TJ:
Bonus is always good. And, after spending a while yesterday in setting a battle I saw how much work that is. So, take your own time. You're doing really great!

Yeah, we're defiantly having a new thread for XFF II. :P

As for thread length and views, my target to beat is NS's Wanton use of [you know the rest].

Also, this must be a new record for the X forums. This thread probably has the lowest moderator(or admin) posts per normal posts. :D

Plus saves wouldn't be compatable for anyone wishing to re-run!

What? 2.6 saves will be compatible with 2.7 as it has always been. Just not the other way around.

That is what I mean - IF you run in 2.7 then no one else could use those saves unless they were too!

Very interesting battle, indeed. Much Pew-Pew and, at least in my case, a Panther as last remaining Xenon which, theoretically could have had the chance to wipe out the Argons if he had stayed at the perimeter. There, he could have killed every Argon one after another, but, as we have artificial incompetence, the Panther strolled slowly to the center of the sector, killed a Shrike and some Solanos and go finally killed by another Shrike. Was nice to watch how the first Shrike and the Panther revolved each other, spitting IBL, CIG and Flak. Since the Panther hit the Shrike first, he had the advantage and survived with few shields and full hull points. But then, in a seizure of random insanity, the Panther's main processor decided to stroll into the pit and got moshed to death.
Indeed a very interesting battle and I'm looking forward to the battle between EJ and me, since it promises to be even more interesting.

One thing I noticed is that some ships, the Deimos, for example, didn't change weapons. It always used the PSG in the front turret while the attacking ships were behind it... Artificial Incompetence, #2.

Oh dear, I'm up this weekend - And I don't like the look of the opposition - I hope my speedier craft manage to engage first and drain the shrikes laser energy. - And we both have M8s in our fleets - It'd be interesting to see if the Xenon M8 does fire more than the Argon - although I concede it has been knowledgably stated by my betters that's not goin to happen.

I think I am unlikely to win the battle ALTHOUGH I do think it will be fairly close. - I think there will be just a few Mambas remaining at the death.

The death..... Remember me.... :(

That's interesting: Because if it didn't switch weapons, it means my setup wasn't correctly transfered; when I run the save on my machine I see clearly twin HEPTs firing from the turrets and no HEPTs from the main battery (where 2 should have been). Anyway, considering >20% of my fleet went on sightseeing, this wouldn't change the outcome I think. :(

When I ran it I saw your Deimos put the PSG into the top turret. Killed a few of your Discos and Falcon Haulers in the process :o To your credit CJ, the Katanas seemed to keep His Panthers occupied for most of my run. One of your panthers even decided not to fight until the last part of the fight. I think triplex scanners might be important.

I was, however, treated to a pair of opposing panther going at it head to head, dead on, killing each other at the same time from IBL fire. It was spectacular :P

Noticed that coward, too and no, Triplex Scanners were not the point. Not a single ship of my fleet was spawned with single scanner and yet, most found their targets.
I just a short test with my fleet, to see where I screwed things up. I took a listed fleet (EJ, you're such a lucky one :fg: ) spawned it and everthing was working as I had forseen. I don't know what happened during the battle vs. Spitzeuk, but it was not my fault - the F.A.R.T. has found at least some of it's honour.

During my run, neither parts of your or parts of Spitzeuk's fleet went of for sightseeing during the hot phase of the battle, except the Panther which was on purpose and good for him. :D

Random Insanity... :D

Bad for you, but good for Spitzeuk and my vote that he's going to win the XFF. :D Go, Spitzeuk! GO! Go! go!

Just ran a simulation with a limited PSG fleet vs. Le Baron's Gummi Bear\Solano insanity fleet. I'm going to stand by my earlier prediction that the Solano spam is going to win this one. Too much shielding on too little and maneuverable a fighter. One interesting thing to point out is that the Helios seemed to do a great job at soaking up a lot of the incoming damage and allowed the Solanos time to chew up the enemy.

Le Baron vs. X2-Eliah is going to be insane....

EDIT: or would be if Le Baron hadn't pulled out. Maybe an exhibition match is in order.

What happened to my other Panther? All three were alive and well when there was only the one Centaur left, but (unless I'm going insane) only two remained at the end of the fight!

It was only the two falcons engaging the centaur, so what happened to the other M7? Don't tell me the autopillock got involved...
