Should Split or Teladi have Ion Disruptors?

Teladi! They steal technology.

Race characteristics for my mod

Post by Dougster »

I'm fooling around with a mod and one of my goals is consistency. I've set certain rules about how races ships handle, accelerate, are constructed, shields, cargo, etc. Now, I'm working my way up to weapons and trying to decide what to do.

Currently, here's my stats:

Argon: Average in most ways. Special weps: APSG, MD, ID

Boron: Superior turning and roll, superior speed, best acceleration, superior cargo, weaker hull. Special Weps: APSG, ID

Paranid: Best hull, superior speed, weaker turning, worst pitch, worst roll, worst acceleration, worst cargo. Special Weps: BPSG, GPSG

Split: Best speed, superior acceleration, weaker turning, weaker pitch, weaker roll, weaker cargo, worst hull, worst shields. Special Weps: APSG, MD, GPPC on M6, GPPC on TL front. Removed ID.

Teladi: Best turning, best pitch, best roll, best shields, best cargo, superior weapon classes, superior hull, weaker acceleration, worst speed, most expensive. Special Weps: APSG, BPSG, BPPC on TL front, APPC on TL side turrets. Removed ID.

Pirate: like Teladi but more cargo, less speed, less shields, and less hull. Better pitch, better roll, worse turning. Same general weps as Teladi. Pirate TS is an exception, it has best speed, worst cargo, and average handling. Has ID.

I've done this consistently, for instance, in my mod the Albatross has more cargo than the Mammoth and all those guns. The Vulture has the most cargo of any TS, and also costs the most to get fully loaded up. I haven't adjusted the prices yet but its in the works. Teladi stuff will become rather expensive, while Split ships will be cheaper. Boron might be more expensive than Argon, and Paranid maybe slightly cheaper.

My mod isn't fully realized yet, but if you want to examine my TShips work and stuff here's the download link courtesy of ShadowTek forums (registration required). I've included other scripts into my mod, so in the spirit of freeware feel free to use my stuff, just give me a plug in the readme's as I have done for all the developers whose work I have borrowed from.

DogStar 0.2a

Its playable, but exceedingly difficult at this point. It doesn't seem to crash at least.

(lol) You should have seen the spreadsheet I had going when I was sorting this all out. I actually reverse calculated ship starting speeds based on desired max engine tunings and desired max speed. Pretty cool. I did the same with rudder upgrades. All ships have 10 possible rudder upgrades. TShips is essentially done, next up is tinkering around with TLasers and TBullets.

I say:

Argon, speical weapons: IDs, MDs
Boron, speical weapons: IDs
Teledi, speical weapons: PSGs (They helped the Paranid make them)
Split, speical weapons: APSG(?), MDs
Paranid, speical weapons: PSGs

What I'm basicly saying is that NO ONE should have PSGs other then Paranids and Teledi craft because those are the two races that produced the PSG.

well, ID's are usually found in boron space, and as split hate the boron, i doubt they would have them

But remember that the split love the ID for the simple fact that they can hunt space flies with it...

depends on the ships hardpoints I say (what weapons the races ships can install)

if some Split can install ION-Ds than they should have them .. my 2 cents ..

I thought the ion cannon was a Boron weapon. There fore the Boron would have it.

maby have it so split can only use them on their merchant vessals and not on their military so that they can still get their spaceflies, but the Boron won't sell them Ions that are used for weapons against them.

I voted both because:-

(a) Split would use them for space fly collecting (c/f Split TP/TL)
(b) Teladi like to steal with maximum profitssss.

Besides which ...

(a) The Teladi would probably steal (or copy) the tech from the Boron - Teladi IonD might be less/more effective
(b) The Teladi would sell them to the Split for profitssss
