Back to my original question.......

Post by Eagle »

....what 'space sim' should I be playing now (not I-War!) :)

Anyone got any experience of Project Earth: Starmageddon?

Cheers!

You could always go back to Elite Frontier 2 on the Amiga 1200....or get an emulator or something to run it on the PC......if you can find an emulator can you tell me?

Yup, bought it, installed it, played it, uninstalled it, took it back.
Kinda like a homeworld wannabe, a little easier to play, with only one screen. Some cool features, such as multiple simultanious battles, that you can flick between with an 'F' key.

However, even with the latest (and only) patch, it was bugged to f**k, one mission I played upto gave you no clue as to what the goal was, and the enemy jumped you straight away.

The distruction book is badly translated, and gives very little info, and the people who made it won't be doing anymore patch's.

What's wrong with I-War? Okay Freespace, it's available on White Label includes Freespace 2, and all the patch's.

X-Wing Alliance...Tie Fighter...Tachyon beyong the Fringe.

Or if you want RTS (After all thats what Starmaggedon is) Starcraft still kick's ass (Also Available for a tenner with the expansion) [ external image ]

There are loads of Amiga emulators around--just do a Google search for WinUAE, for example. The biggest problem, though, is that the emulators can't legally include the Amiga Kickstart ROM--I think WinUAE tries to include enough of a "clean room" version for games to boot, but you would get better results by copying the actual ROM from an old Amiga, should you have one lying around.

X-Wing Alliance! Most excellent game! I only ever played the demo, but I loved getting into the turret of the T-1400 ( is it T?) and blasting away at ships! hahaha!

my brother had an Amiga 1200 and he had Elite Frontier 2, I started to play it and i was immediately HOOKED! Ive liked space/adventure games ever since, then years later i found XBTF and i was playing that game more than 8 hours a day (literally) because it was an elite clone which i liked :)

I've played the whole game. It was alright, but I still think the best space combat simulation of all time is TIE Fighter.

Incidentally, I always found in X-Wing Alliance that all you ever did when flying one of the Corellian freighters (YT-1300 and YT-2000) was to hit the key to target an enemy, hit the key to get your turrets to fire at him, wait until he was destroyed, rinse, and repeat. This meant you could fly with no laser power at all, which was very handy in some missions!
