HMS Lion: Rusti's New Project: Ongoing Thread & PICS

Post by RustiSwordz »

Well people want more of my stuff so i thought I'd open up a thread as to the progress of my latest project.

Day 01

http://www.error691.com/Rusti/lionBW.jpg

The pen and ink sketch scanned into Photoshop Elements at a res of 400 dpi. And a size well over 4000 pixels in width.

Part of the lower fin i removed because it just didnt look right. And that gun on the side will have to go...

At this stage i haven't decided on a colour scheme or how this ship is to look, al i do know that this ship is a huge Heavy Destroyer class designed to look as if it will eat other ships for breakfast. The ship itself isnt based on anything however on second looks it looks a bit like the USS Sulaco from Aliens.

Day 02

http://www.error691.com/Rusti/lionCol01.jpg

After a couple of stabs and dabs with a variety of brushes and colours i found the ones i wanted.

Using a rough brush with a low opacity level i began to brush in the colour using a mix of two hades of blue a medium dark and a light. i chose a textured brush for precily that reason, it gives the picture that 'painted look' although the pics dont show it that well, at full res it looks cool.

Then using two very useful tools Burn and dodge i start drawing in the hull texture, at this stage the gun on the side is gone and the fin has started to be blocked in.

I will continue this thread until the ship is finished. Thought you like to see the master in action... :D

Comments welcome.

prob just to accentuate the evilness.

also a contrast to the sleek and smooth sides and rear, interesting juxtaposition.
want the FACTS about X2/X3?

Day 3

****!

http://www.error691.com/Rusti/lion-col02.jpg

Today i have completed the lower fin and now moving onto the bow of the ship. This section is giving me a headache due to the curving nature of the nose. all the textures i have placed on it look twisted and i have had to paint over it twice and even imported a new nose from a B+W file i have of the origonal pen and ink ship.

Still i'm gonna keep plugging away, im sure inspiration will rear up at some point. :D

PS: The blades on the front are indeed for ramming other vessels. The big blade has two tubes which are complex troop insertion pods. The Main blade tears open an enemy vessel then the pods move forward and 'injects' its bording parties straight into the enemy ship/station.

Looking good Rusti  :)
I'd much rather regret the things I've done, than regret those I haven't.
