OT: Do Mine Eye's deceive.. Psychological discussion on life

Post by Guest »

As I sit staring through two ground glass receptors that bring my eye sight to 20-20 the believed perfection of human sight... I can't help feeling disappointed with humanity... after thousands of years of evolution we still have a hatred of that which is different... Everyone in this planet is generalised, we live in a generalised society... everyone compartmentalised... oh your Good looking.... My bum is firmer than yours... oh you're White and English You MUST be stuck up... And quite Frankly I'm Sick of It... People fear new things Especially if that new thing is Genetic Engineering!

Now I take my 'Visual Aid' off my face relaxes... the world softens, I can feel a soft breeze blowing in through the open window, a warm yellowish brown light casts warm shadows across the room through the half closed curtains... people no longer become harsh details but colourful characters, a world of great beauty...

I pity those with 20-20 vision as for they cannot see the world as I do!

Humanity toils tirelessly never looking up never taking our eyes from the task in hand... maybe it is time we looked up and dreamed as we once did...

Of the stars and of truth...

It seems something very strange is going on... It said I was logged on but posted this as guest!!! Very strange...

But What Do you all think?

hmmm... maybe I've listened to too much Jazz, and blues music... but... I can't help thinking how slowly humanity has been to grasp a new way of thinking. It holds us back, stops humanity from going further, I recently read an article on Bio-research. I remember reading the scientists article out on set! The reaction I got startled me... People were repulsed by the idea. One even proclaimed that This would not go ahead while they were on this earth... I asked him Why... They gave a religious answer...

Research that could have one day offered up a cure for all illness, ended in one rash statement...

Hi. This is a very interesting question.

I have little/no sight. So I say that my judgement isn't impared because visually I can't be affected in the way that a sighted person can/does. If I make a judgement on somebody, then a good 9 times out of 10, I will be right.

If you was to ask me how I come to my judgements of people, well that's a very difficuult question to answer as II am uncertain that I could adiquately explain. I guess you could say, that it's a mixture of things.

1. The sound of someone's voice.
2. The way they are acting and the way they say what they are saying.
3. My intuition. I have learn't to trust it and to read it. Subject to me not being blinded by my imotions. That would be about the best answer I can give you.

That would be cool!

My eyes aren't perfect, I don't were glasses, but they do go a bit funny around sunset. IE: neon signs go blurry and such.

What I'd really like is vision like a birds. They don't see in a zoomed way, as such, but with so much detail that they don't need zoomy things.

Then again, with replacement eyes and a small nanocomputer for controling/storage of images, you'd be able to digitally zoom, store images even e-mail or bluetooth them to a pooter! lol

And I saw in the paper a while ago that a cosmetic surgen belives that in ten or so years we'd be able to take samples of bone and muscle and skin and such and grow them in a mould to make, for example, a tail to attach to where our tailbone is. And, because our brains map our bodies out when you learn to use them (that's why people feel "phantom" limbs when they loose an arm or leg) it'd only take a few months to learn to use them! This doc said ornamental wings, or bone grown as horns would also be possible.

Funkey! so genetic engineering is not the only answer! just one of a few!

Room for improvement.

Growing up in a family who were all, excluding myself profoundly deaf.

I used to watch in amazement conversations in sign language,
the same conversation using the spoken word would take longer to communicate.

How can this be possible ? easy sign language consists of a sign for a complete word or even a small sentence.

Finally i get round to the topic of the thread, 'Vision'

When you cannot hear your Eyes become the only means of receiving communication, this forces you to further develop the other senses that you do have eg ... Smell, Feel, Taste, and vision.

How do you improve your eyesight or vision? by developing more 'Peripheral' vision.

In effect this gives you eyes in the back of your head, a handy extra when in times of trouble.

Humans are capable of much more development before we even think of genetic engineering.

Look at the Magician David Blane he has studied yoga, hypnotism, self development, the guy can do things which seem impossible to you or i.

Martial arts, athletics, Zen bhuddism, Disabilities, all these things can improve or enhance the average human beings senses by a great deal.

In my battleship all gunners would be profoundly deaf, and woe any one who tried to sneak up from behind 8)

Genetics i think is a good science, whether it is used for the good of mankind only time will tell :o

First, develop the naturally enhanced human, ... then let genetics be introduced 8)

From a very lucky guy who can hear, see, touch, feel, smell 8)

Hi Robroy. Yes it is very true that senses have to be trained from birth.

From my perspective, the failing of sighted people, is that they are just that. Sighted, they have not a clue of the other senses. Which can make my hearing dangerous as sight can't go round corners, but sound can and it's that which can give me a great advantage. What's that saying, "out of sight, out of mind?" Well, it's one of the most unclevver sayings imaginable. So is "what you can't see can't hert you."
