Medieval Total War sound problems
Lately, I've been having trouble with the sound in Medieval: Total War. This is very odd, as I haven't changed anything with my system since November, and the most recent saves before my August ones are from April. The sound only becomes distorted when I go into a realtime battle, then it just becomes fuzzy and...distorted. I'm using the AC '97 Combo Drivers for my onboard sound, as you can see in my sig. Might be a problem with my speakers, the adapter just died and my dad had to wire me a new one with slightly lower power input. Although my other games and music sound fine. Any ideas?

Sound Blaster Audigy

Keep a fire extinguisher handy.
It’s been years since I played that, but I do remember there could be problems with sound. I think (but probably wrong) that it happened the further you went into the game and had something to do with memory of all things, though to be honest it was so long ago, the problems more to do with my memory.

Can't be memory. The game actually runs smoothly all the time, the sound just gets distorted. And it sounds like you had a memory leak if it's the further you went into it. The sound just goes crappy all of a sudden in battles for me.

buying a sound card is a bit of an excessive test!Jethro Smiles wrote:Ok have you tried reinstalling, or analysing your HD to see if some of those files have become fragmented, buying a sound card and not using the mobo 1
Try updating/reinstalling your sound drivers and reinstalling the game.
Also, if it is a memory leak.....it should not occur on a new game.....so try a new game and see how it plays

Why, motherboard soundcards are generally poor with drivers that conflict more than separate soundcards, plus how hard is it to borrow a mates soundcard and try thatpixel wrote:buying a sound card is a bit of an excessive test!Jethro Smiles wrote:Ok have you tried reinstalling, or analysing your HD to see if some of those files have become fragmented, buying a sound card and not using the mobo 1

Yup, i had problem like that, when the speakers are run for long times on weeks on end they go horrible. They an't broaken but it will take a long time for them to recover, take weeks at least.Constipated_Vigilante wrote:Lately, I've been having trouble with the sound in Medieval: Total War.
