Looks like the SYSTEM will ban me from this evening

Post by Deleted User »

Lucrativus here :(
I cannot post under my own name because of a glitch (that is known to the powers that be) in the forum software.

So, from this evening, when the Guest posts are stopped, I will effectively be banned from posting or replying to existing posts on this forum (of which I have been a member for some years now).

The fault suddenly appeared after I re-formatted my machine a few days ago. It has something to do with the way that the forum handles cookies.

I have even tried to register under a different name, but that still does not work, I still cannot post or reply.

Thanks and so long

strange I re-installed windows about a half dozen times last week (or week before) and ain't had any problems.

I presume you have tried re-saving the cookie from your forum prefs. deleteing your cookies etc..

mind there are definate issues with this forum, I noticed that I can NOT logout, EVER,, click logout it just moves me to the forum index still logged in as Avis.

all that said it is a bit of a git to ban Guests BEFORE fixing the login problem

have you tried logging in going through the direct link?

Try to see if you can log in that way.

Email steel and keep nagging until the prob can be fixed.

Have you got your cookie level set to reject cookies or a low setting?

You may have to adjust your cookie preferences in IE or whatever you use.

Lucrativus here :( Thanks for the responses guy & gals.

My system is set to accept all cookies.

I normally log in to the direct link. Although by now I have tried just about every way I can think of.

I can log into the DevNet Chat area, no problems at all.

The strange thing is that when you look at the initial screen for the forum (the one with the option to go to German or English forum) I am shown as on-line. But clicking on the English forum and I am not shown and cannot post. Strange aint it.

I have already emailed Steel (Thanks for trying to sort this) and he issued me with a new password, in case that was the problem, but that did not change anything. Burnit is aware of the problem and hopefully will fix it shortly.

Hopefully they will sort this out soon and I shall return.

Looks like I am reduced to LURKING for a while.

I just wonder how many others are in the same position I am but do not realise that they can post as a guest.

Once again, Thanks

From what ive been able to gether logging into the x-community on the front page of egosoft isnt the same as forum, which means logging into forum different.

Also as ive found out using lag its best to tick the "always keep me logged in" box when you log in, as some times it doesnt work.

If youve tried this, and it doesnt work, then i dunno, check to make sure cookies are enabled. If that is on then just one word.

Moan!

There is something very weird going on here.

Following a private response from XenonBuster, who has been having the same problem as me, I logged on to AOL (my service provider) and then reduced it down to the bottom bar and started Internet Explorer 5.5 and logged on to the forum through IE...... and here I am :D

Anyone have any idea what the hell is going on (PLEASE No AOL bashing).

It worked OK for me until I re-formatted my machine. Since then I cannot log in through AOL only IE. I have just upgraded to IE 6 but that has not fixed the AOL problem.

If you like  you can try deleting the Egosoft cookie and see what happens. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS......

I used to be with AOL, many many moons ago, and I had similar problems, Not with the x fourm , but with other websites.

After doing everything I (And my friends) could think of, I contacted AOL, and was told that they have a system that stops you from accessing sites that they don't think you should see (All part of the inbuilt perental controls), and it sometimes pick's forums, and other interactive sites, incase they are porn or something.

I then had to minimise and use IE.

Thought by now they (AOL) would have solved this, but maybe not.

So I guess you have to use IE or switch from AOL.

Sorry, guys, but I haven't been able to post since they changed the board to the space scene. Everything was fine until then. Whatever they did, CHANGE IT BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS. I have no link to pm's but I know I have them, cause my e-mail tells me so.

Heheheee, I can post, I wonder for how long.

Hi folks, I don't know if the 'Men in Green' have been fixing things but I can now log in through AOL into the forum.
