Hi all. Well, today I put my GPS unit really through it's paces.
We went to one of the local towns near to me. Lowestoft and I took the unit with me and created a route between my home and the shopping centre. Or I should say, to the Summerfield car park. Then when I got in there, I created a few points of interest in the shopping centre itself.
I was very impressed with it because the unit gives you so much information. At the touch of a button, I can get the following information.
1. Nearest waypoint.
2. Nearest point of interest. FOr example, MC Donnalds Restaurant or, a point of interest that I have put in there myself.
3. Speed of travel either in KMPH or MPH.
4. Heading. Cumpass including degrees.
5. Direction to the way point in the following 2 ways. Either left to right, for example, Mc Donnalds ahead and right, or, Mc donnalds at 1 oclock. Then it will give me the distance to with in 30 feet or about 10 metres.
6. Trigger an alert when you reach near the waypoint or final destination. You can set this yourself. But, if you are traveling more than 20 miles per hour, the distance is x5 to allow for the greater speed that you are traveling in.
7. Distance between the start of the route and the finnish.
8. Total distance that you have traveled.
I can get all that at the touch of a given command. Need more practis, but yes today has proven to be really interesting andd a great experience. And if I was to turn the unit off for what ever reason then turn it back on at a point further down the jerney, it would again point me in the direction of the nearest waypoint. I also have the ability to reverse the route so I can go back along it as well.
O T, my first GPS experience. I declare it a 100% success
