Not Quite Louis De Bernieres

Post by El_Duddz »

Hello All,

I am in the throws of my first X-Universe insired story and was hoping for a few tips.

Now the creative part I am fine with and my girlfriend can help me with the English (well lets face my English is not good, I should know I am one :D ).

I was just wondering where peoples egos stopped in writing stories :?:

Do more people write about themselves as if they were in the X-Universe or from a third person perspective, or even writing about themselves from a third person persepective.

I was just interested in knowing.

My creation is a long way off from completion, but I will post it here when it is complete and before I head off on my wirlwind book signing tour :D

Cheers.

Heya,

have a look at SteveMill's website. He has reviewed a host of useful literature.

Other than that, make a start and we happily help.

I second that! If you are serious about writing then it really pays to read at least one good book on the craft side of things. I can't emphasise enough how much of a head start knowing writing techniques gives you.

They'll show you how to introduce the central character, what qualities they need etc. I found James Frey a great guide.

As for inspiration for a hero - it can come from anywhere. A homage to other fictional characters, an idealised version of yourself, anywhere. What is really important is understanding the role they play in your story and understanding them in depth.

Anyways - post things here for us to read and comment.

And above all, dont be scared to break from craft convention once in a while.
