I am trying to eliminate some of the hideously repetitive voice sounds from my game. They are located in a file called 00144.dat. Windows media player can open and play the file but none of the three mp3 editors I have tried can open it.
Can anyone tell me what editor to use? (preferrably freeware)

I have it set to zero, but zero is not off. it still babbles audibly in the background. Also it is nice to have the voice when viewing cutscenes or talking to NPC's. Its the mind numbingly tedious repetitive effects I want to eliminate. I can do this by setting the volume to zero for the effects I don't like in the 00144.dat file if I can find an MP3 editor which is capable of opening the file. I don't want to convert it to a .wav and back because it will probably crash the game.
