Some questions

Post by siggy »

allright allright, i apologize first because i didn't read many threads but i am not someone with a lot of time to spend so please don't shoot me ;)

Since i first sat behind the computer and watched the various scifi (space based) movies and series i wanted a space game. I was a bit too late for elite but any other game was just crap.

Lately, my interest has come back big time with for 4 days earth & beyond which was a total dissapointment and the freelancer, another huge dissapointment for me. I am probably asking to much, or the game producers release false info ;)

Anyway i got a couple of questions on x2:
- are the planets really moving like in reality? so if you would stand still the planets would move by?
- is it completely 3d? (up is up and down is down with no boundries)
- can i do really anything i want to do?
- about the balance of fighting/trading, is it 50/50 or more fighting then trading?
- will it be possible to make mods?

thanx in advance for the answers :)

Planets rotate, atmosphere is visible, clouds move (if you hang around long enough to see them). But planets stay in one place.

Yes
siggy wrote: - can i do really anything i want to do?
Yes. If you can see it, you can destroy it and probably own it (if you can afford it - there are some exceptions)
siggy wrote: - about the balance of fighting/trading, is it 50/50 or more fighting then
100% trading, 100% fighting, anything in-between. Your choice.

Haven't a clue.

1. Just like in reality they move very very slowly... i.e. they spin but the other movement isn't really a factor

2. Yes it is completely 3D... although many of the factories are all clustered around the centre... There are boundaries but you'd have to be really geeky to travel all the way out to find them!

3. Yes anything... very few limitations in X2

4. You don't have to trade or fight! it's up to you what you choose to do with yourself!

5. Yes, people mod'ed X-T undoubtedly they'll do it with X2... Maybe even Egosoft will do a few official mods too!

thanx for the fast answers! Wow, this might be the game i'm waiting for this long.

Although, about the planets (my guess is that Mr. Steel is somehow the expert here ;) ) why don't they move? And if there are moons, don't they do an orbit around a planet?

Because it would take about 1,000 hours on SETA (singularity engine time accelerator, i.e. speeds the game up) for you to notice the difference! As for moons.... I don't know...

And yes this is the game you've been waiting for so long to find

Euh 1,000 hours? Howso if i would live on the moon, i wouldnt have to wait long to see the earth coming up and going down. And if i would really would stand still, not in orbit, i would see the earth coming by with a amazing speed of approx 100 000 kilometers per hour. And i think i would see the difference :gruebel:

I must be doing something wrong, but the question is what? :)

That would assume you're standing on the surface of the planet, which you can't do in X2--the action all takes place in space. Placement of planets also isn't all that realistic in X anyway--there's a sector called Three Worlds which contains, you guessed it, three planets; all of which hang in space about 500km apart with no visible means of support.

However, X is not a "real space" simulation like Frontier: Elite 2, so a little license with the laws of physics is only to be expected :-).
