Boron Patriot

Post by Falcrack »

Started a game as Boron, Queen's Herald start, with VRO mod installed. I started construction of a large factory in Argon Prime and Kingdom End, to try and prop up both factions. I did the Terran plot, and set the Terrans at war with Argon, and by extension, the Boron as well. With my betrayal of the Terrans, I immediately declared my hostilites, and renamed "Delilah's Swansong" to "Delilah's Regret".

What followed was a very tough fight for survival for both the Argon and Boron. The Boron economy was really struggling. Were it not for my factory in Kingdom End, they would have been critically low on just about everything they needed to fight a war. I felt like I was the almost lone supplier for them of hull parts, weapon components, advanced electronics, and turret components. The Argon were a bit better off, but I wasn't going to let their wartime needs pass by without making a profit.

My fleet was assembled mainly based on captured SCA destroyers, 1 Behemoth E, 4 Phoenix E, and a Panther, along with my Hyperion "Trinity". The situation in Boron space looked dire, as Ocean of Fantasy had turned neutral due to losses of Boron defense stations there. Getsu Fune and The Void had also been taken by the Terrans. With my small ragtag fleet, and whatever fighters I could afford from my factory profits, I fought against the Terrans first in Ocean of Fantasy, then when I had secured that, Getsu Fune. But my losses in fighters were such that I struggled to gather the required critical mass for decisive wins without taking expensive losses.

Then came a critical turning point. The Boron were attempting to establish a defense platform in Getsu Fune, near the gate that leads to Ocean of Fantasy. I stationed my fleet there to defend against the Terrans, surrounding it also with 50 Mk2 laser towers. From the gate that leads to Asteroid Belt, I saw a large Terran fleet with a Tokyo (and about 50 fighters), about 3 Osakas, and a resupply ship come through. In my ship the Gumption's Gambit, I goaded that fleet to come towards the Boron Defense station under construction, with my waiting fleet. As their fighters came in without the support of the other capital ship, I was able along with the other fighters in my fleet to wipe out their fighter support. Then I attacked with my own fleet. But I realized that instead of destroying the Terran invaders, perhaps I could capture a few instead?

My destroyer fleet, along with the Hyperion, had about 70 veteran marines, trained up from long practice capturing SCA destroyers. In the Gumption's Gambit, I went around destroying the engines of the Tokyo, 2 Osakas, a Honshu auxiliary ship, and a Kyushu builder. I striped those ships of turrets, and with my marines, went one by one capturing those Terran capital ships just outside the gate that led to their home sector. It was tricky managing the turrets of my destroyers so as to not destroy the ships, but still defend themselves. I set them to "Attack only fighters", and that seemed to do a good job defending against raids from Terrans Katanas that kept coming through the gate.

With my new fleet of Terran ships, I was finally able to fully take out the Terran defense platforms in Getsu Fune, but not without a severe loss. While flying the Hyperion, I was caught in the middle of a large fleet of Terran fighters and corvettes, and was not able to escape in time before my fleet could come rescue me. While the loss of the Hyperion was hard, I made sure to transfer all the precious veteran marines onboard off before it was destroyed, and I made sure to quickly scoop up the Exceptional mods that dropped from it after its destruction.

I continued my battles there, and soon, Getsu Fune ownership passed over to the Borons. I left the defense of that sector to them while I headed south into The Void to rid Antigone of their Terran occupation. After several intense battles, the Terran defense platforms were wiped out there as well, though the Xenon were also making a strong attempt to take that sector.

I sent my destroyer fleet consisting of "Delilah's Regret", 2 Osakas, 4 Phoenix E, and 1 Behemoth E to wipe out the remaining Terran factories in The Void. On my way to take out the last Terran station, there was a Xenon V in between my fleet and the Terran Solar Power Plant. My fleet of destroyers made short work of the V before they turned their attention to the Terran factory. But I was surprised when I heard a Terran voice say "Thank You", and my reputation, which had been almost -30, was now at -14. I guess they really appreciated me getting rid of that V.

With this turn of events, I decided to accept a temporary ceasefire with the Terrans and called my fleet off from attacking that last Terran station and focus my efforts on the Xenon. My fleets in now poised to make a push into Frontiers Edge, to try to reclaim that sector from the Xenon for Antigone. That's where things stand now. Just thought it would be fun to write a little after action report.
