Why all Terran ships named after Japanese cities?

Post by lsc0907 »

Strongly recommend switch Terran ships named with Chinese traditional or mysteries animals. Trust me, you will gain a huge number of players.

There are some lore-based explanations and theories even with earlier X games.
A dog has a master; a cat has domestic staff.

If you read the game lore, then in this universe Space Fever and first achievements in space originated from japan. I mean the founder of everything was Ashikava Kazuko. This is likely an echo of an era where the very first game was made (90s). Everything is heavily japanese influenced, and in previous titles it was much more pronounced. In x4 they dialed this down, a lot.

Chinese mythological animals are less known in the western countries. It is probably for historical reasons. Basically, it is likely difficult to name even one for many people.

To be more specific, everybody knows Chinese dragon. But what's it called in Chinese? That sort of thing.

USC ships are named after Japanese cities.

Ships of the ATF (AGI Task Foce) are named after Nordic mythology. Tyr, Asgard, Odin...

Maybe to keep the factions apart.
or because ATF is a pure military faction in contrast to USC, they needed distinctive names.

This. Japan ended up being the dominant cultural and technological power in the X universe when humanity took to the stars, so much like you see English everywhere nowadays the same is true for Japanese when it comes to Terrans and the Argon. Though for some reason, they changed Japanese writing (on stations and such) to fantasy squiggles for X4.
