[Feature request] Subordinate Control add status and change names

Post by Torstein »

I mostly like that my medium ships "Escorting" my Large ships.

From other topic:
alt3rn1ty wrote: Mon, 9. Jun 25, 11:59 To disambiguate the OPs "bug" .. A suggestion for the setting, add a third one.

"Docked" = No fighters will launch.
"Launched" = Fighters stay in the fleets "Formation"
"At Immediate Notice" = Current Launched behaviour, fighters will land when not needed for defence etcetera, but auto launch to carry out their role. And this mode becomes the default.

Maybe "At Immediate notice" is too long a lable for the button, how about "Standing by", or just "Primed".
My main issue is with the medium that takes forever to dock and undock.

I agree, I think a tick box, for "[ ] Escort" would be good, and use the name "standby" instead of launched, similar to how sea aircraft carriers have "15-minute standby" or "Alert 15".

And add tooltips:

Standby: Subordinate that can dock is docked but prepared for immediate operational launch.
Docked: Subordinate that can dock is secured and not available for flight operations.
Escort: Subordinate that can dock will stay undocked, and fly in formation.

This is simlare to "[Grayout] Lanched": "None of the subordinate in this group can dock at this ship."

I like this suggestion, it disambiguates the "Launched" button (when the behaviour of this state is that fighters will return and land on the Carrier, they are then at immediate notice to launch again to carry out their role of "Attack", "Defend" etcetera .. But they are not, as the button says, actually launched all of the time).
As the OP said in the other topic, really this Launched state translates to the real world Carriers having their fighters at Alert State 15, or At Alert state 5, or at Immediate notice to launch.
So changing "Launched" to something less ambiguous would be good.
The addition of an Escort state would also be good.

For anyone else who does not know about it, there is a newish Carrier Command that can have all your fighters groups in a Position Defence stance :

If you want them to be permanently launched, right click the Carrier, and choose "Start Position Defence" ..

(This is different from the Carriers "Behaviour" Position defence).

You need to set your fighters into different sub groups to have more position defence posts relative to the carrier.
In the screenshot I just have an Alpha group full of 50 Chimera, so starting the carriers position defence only gave one post.
If I split them up into Alpha, Beta etcetera, you get the same amount of position defence posts as you have groups.

These Position defence posts can be dragged to wherever you want them around the carrier.
In that last screenshot you can see the groups of fighters all launching and manoeuvering to their respective positions.
You can also set the Groups in this mode to have a different roll, for example in the third screenshot I could set the two groups ahead of the carrier to Intercept, while having the other three groups all set to Defend.

Start Position Defence is noted in the WIKI https://wiki.egosoft.com:1337/X4%20Foun ... gnment%29/
But the OP suggestions would still be welcome for some circumstances. Besides the disambiguation of Launched, a quick change button to "Escort" mode would be useful when you haven't time to set up the whole Position Defence, or you want all you fighters already actually launched in anticipation of a fight, instead of having them bouncing off each other like the Keystone cops trying to get launched.

Request : Could we have a Mantis number for this suggestion ?
