Suggestion: miners automatically deploy resource probes
I'd like to suggest that we be given the option to configure our miners so that if they are mining a region which is outside the 40 km resource probe range, they automatically drop a probe, as long as the ship has resource probes onboard.

Re: Suggestion: miners automatically deploy resource probes
This is definitely a good idea. Rather than making low-level miners mine 10 times slower than high-level ones, allowing skilled miners to automatically deploy probes makes much more sense.
However, this goes against Egosoft’s design philosophy, where players are expected to manually perform tasks to boost efficiency. From their perspective, manual input should always yield better results than automation.

Re: Suggestion: miners automatically deploy resource probes
It would be nice... probes aren't really worth pre-deploying anyway as far as I can tell.
I used to do that, thinking it would help them if I had the area mapped out with probes or something, but it had no impact whatsoever on where miners go. They seem to have mineral ESP that guides them to the perfect place on the map. Now I just look where they're already mining and tell a ship to drop a probe on it, which ends up creating a large semi-3D square grid.
No thought or anything goes into this process, it may as well be automated.

Re: Suggestion: miners automatically deploy resource probes
This would be nice. All I do, is I'll equip my first few Mining ships with resource probes. I'll then let them find a spot in a sector -which I already know about after years of play - then manually order them to deploy there. They've already found what's hopefully a good spot, so they might as well deploy there to get the benefits.
What are the exact benefits of resource probes being present these days? Better yields? Faster resource collection? Do miners find the best spots themselves, or is further scouting of value? Personally, in sectors I'll be heavily mining, I deploy usually four resource probes throughout the sector.
I do wish there were good Exploration commands that automated finding particularly rich resource areas for the player. An option for a regular Explorer to find, and mark via resource probes, areas with rich yields would be cool. The existing exploration behaviour is really not very good at all, painfully slow even when a Pilot has ranked up a bit.
