Is there no way to filter missions?
It would be handy to filter messages by faction, by section, by type, etc....

Nope. IIRC they're in alphabetical order, which is certainly the least useful sorting order.
The most useful would be the order in which they were accepted.
The second most useful would be by faction.
The third most useful would be by amount.
If they're not going to give us sorting options, then they should pick some other sorting method. It's as simple as changing the sorting function it uses.

If I look through my list of over 100 accepted missions I am usually looking for missions of a certain type or for a certain faction. So sorting by type and faction would be most useful for me.
At least this creates blocks of the same type, for example all "A Worthwhile Investment" missions are build missions. For me it is much better than:
