[7.50] Rattlesnake does not shoot on station (OOS)

Post by Fluggonaut »

I have a Rattlesnake that is ordered to destroy a Xenon station that is currently being built.

The Rattlesnake is positioned in firing distance and correct orientation (screenshot). It does, however, not shoot (which would be indicated by the station symbol shaking). Instead, it stands still and does absolutely nothing. The pilot is a 3* pilot, so I would expect him/her to be able to handle the situation.

The Rattlesnake is the only one the player owns (called FL Rattlesnake, NRW-885), currently positioned in Matrix #598.

You might want to give the 7.60 Public Beta a try to see if that improves your particular situation. There are several improvements and fixes to capital ship approach and firing, and it would be good to know if any of them solves this.

Just as an aside in case relevant, there has always been an issue with in-sector (IS) targeting/engagement of Xenon stations under early construction that might affect OOS too. (The reason I say that is that the ship may be in range of the station indication on the map but not yet able to detect/target the actual module under construction.)

Typically just one invisible module with 15% hull and its build storage are near to (but not necessary exactly at) the position indicated on the map; the module is hard to detect even when the player is directly piloting. The module cannot at that time directly be selected and targeted but it can be hit and damaged. In such IS situations it is normally the ship's turrets set to attack all enemies/capitals that will first detect and fire at the module when in range and so show the player where to aim their fixed forward weapons.

My gameplay advice in this situation is either to order the attack remotely when OOS/low attention (assuming any issues mentioned by CBJ above are fixed), or if IS to get the Rattlesnake closer so that turrets set to attack all enemies/capitals start to engage it. At this early stage the station itself is undefended.
