Combat music

Is there a way to alter combat music without marking the game ***modified***?

So far I've found but the author of the former claims that all mods (installed via the workshop?) mark the game. However, I vaguely remember from earlier titles that not all files used to be signed and therefore some could be changed. Is this still the case and does that apply to music_bigbattle in defaults.xml?

Modifying a game without tagging it as modified? No, not possible.

Older games had a couple mods that Egosoft "signed", but this is not the case for X4. Anyway, you're not really losing anything by marking your game as modified. You only lose access to Budgeted Start (which you can replicate using Custom Start and moderate amount of self-restraint) and Ventures (which haven't been active in years anyway).

I recently got two or three achievements, in a highly modded game.

The music tracks in X4 no longer have a signature file since the Split dlc from 3.20
so you can swap them out in the game folder and then activate them in steam with -prefersinglefiles

Finally gave it a try. Couldn't get it to work. The horrid "suspenseful" music still keeps kicking in. Playing muted, again.
