Could we maybe have more default ship paintjobs?
Right now it is blue, green, red, yellow, matte and bright variants.
How about at least adding: purple, orange, grey, white and black?
This certainly shouldn't take long, just a hue shift in editor.
Obviously would be great to have some camo available as default and some sort of worn out/rust skin. But this would be more work, while few extra colors shouldn't take long to implement.

At least, allow us to unlock more default skins as we progress in the game, just now the only ones with a different partner that we can unlock are the Vigor, Dukes and Quettanauts ones. How about also adding the Hatikvah camo for example? Also can be great is we can get the Timelines abandoned ships paint jobs as default skins.

Re: [FeatureRequest] More default ship skins
This is an interesting point. The existing default skins are essentially just palette swaps. Even the vast majority of unlockable skins (through high faction reputation) are merely monotone palette swaps with no substantive variation in skin pattern or texture.
It seems odd that players are limited to about two dozen "color" options (and only after tremendous effort) in X4, whereas the first introduction of the PHQ in X3R gave players a Spray Shop with both a Hue slider and Saturation slider with immensely more flexibility.
Not to mention that the X4 default ship skin applies to ALL non-customized ships while, in contrast, the X3 spray shop allowed per-ship customization.

I don't remember it, but I'd certainly want it. Color picker with standard HSL/HSV selector and hexcode input field.

X3 Reunion 2.0 Bala Gi Trailer - PHQ Paint Shop

Yes, a color picker would be ideal (and much more modern), but even a set of "standard X4" sliders would be a great benefit. Anything that provides more freedom in ship appearances would be a great improvement.

Re: [FeatureRequest] More default ship skins
I would like to see the whole system revamped. Having to dock at an eq/wharf/shipyard to change paints and have some kind of system in place to provide scarcity. Perhaps required materials? Crafted pigments? Theres lots of ways I can think to do it.
I also think we should get the sliders as shown above to make our own. The scale of patterns could be unlocked so the player can adjust them on a ship-by-ship basis. This could allow the player to make paints that currently look bad on some ships look good. We should also get a way to override the 2-colour setup of ships, so we can get a single colour across any ship.
I also think 300 paintmods is too much, so much bloat and no way for us to access it outside of mods - quite odd. I think a sledgehammer should be taken to this entire feature and major streamlining should happen.
I also think that scarcity could be provided by a better ware-and-tear or damage system, eg, what if a ships paintjob got worn out over time and it needed to be 'repaired' as part of the normal repair process? Would be very cool to see a new visual damage system.

Player hasn't to. Its possible to apply skin via context menu on any ship midflight.
There is also Fallen Families camo I use as default one. Its hard to raise the rep that high but player can set it up high enough already via budgeted start.

The reason why asked for more default skins and not a revamp because having few more skins is faster. Few clicks on an editor.Axeface wrote: ↑Sat, 19. I'm not fond of the current system. "Scarcity" makes no sense in a world where you can print destroyers in minutes. I'd rather be unlocking blueprints. Also I looked through every skin listed on the wiki recently, there are a lot of duplicates with slightly altered color. For examle, Republic Camo 1, Company Camo 1, Scale Plate Camo 1, Godrealm, Alliance, Holy Order Camo 1 all use same base shape with altered colors.
I'd rather have the game provide pattern and let me pick the colors for it. This could be implemented in several ways either using palette, or like it was done in sims with RGB channels used as weights to blend selected colors together. But this is more work then just few more default skins.
