What happened to Goners?
Too bad, such a key faction has received not so much attention in several latest games. We haven't learnt much about the crysis of their teachings, which would inevitably happen after the Argon-Terran war. But Goners were still there in Farnham's Legacy, it seems they had more goals than just worshiping the Earth, otherwise they would dissolve quickly.
Maybe, in the upcoming DLC we'll see the Elysium of Light sector and what remains from the Goners. Is it possible?

Apparently they went crazy and turned into anti-Terran agitators (see also).

They found Terra and dissolved. Some of the Goners didn't like what they found and turned into a hostile faction called Heretic Vanguards. In Rebirth you could steal Lyramekrons from them.UnknownObject wrote: ↑Tue, 1. Apr 25, 02:23 Too bad, such a key faction has received not so much attention in several latest games. They have all become icecream salesmen on the planet Argon Prime.

Re: What happened to Goners?
Some of the Goners were able to reconcile with the proof of their faith and have earned residence on Gaia for religious reasons, after patiently jumping through every hoop the USC and ATF gave them.
Those who could not reconcile, or failed to earn Gaian citzenship, became an extremist faction seeking to 'purify' Gaia in accordance with their beliefs.
At least, that is my understanding.

Re: What happened to Goners?
Just to set the record straight, the Goners were never a truly religious sect. They used that as a cover because the early Argon govt. had outlawed any mention of Earth. That allowed them to continue their scientific research into all things Earth-related without being persecuted. Whatever happened after the Terrans showed up was up to each Goner individual as they tried to find a new purpose in their lives.

It was a sad day when they were overrun by a swarm of space Hamsters.

Re: What happened to Goners?
Just a small theory, in X4 we have those extremist Yakis that call for the genocide of all Terrans, and the suspicions that sone Argon faction is being them, so, those Argons can be the Heretic Vanguards (anti-terran terrorist goners) that someway managed to gain power between the Argon high-ranks?
Is to be a good plot to develop in the lore.

The game needs a sect of religous nutters.
We already have a faction that work with the Xenon. So what we need now is a worship the Kha'ak faction.

Split? If we treat Kha'ak as a force of nature of sorts.
Definitely will be some humans who will worship that too. Perhaps someone will be looking for possibility to merge with Khaak ship, like i was done in ... X2. With Kyle Brennan.

Unironically I think Boron would be the best fit, given the Sanctuary of Darkness storyline. A fringe group of Boron who think Kha'ak have just been picked on by everybody and are willing to right that wrong by any means necessary.

Re: What happened to Goners?
I was thinking of Mutualism.
An initially isolated inhabited sector could have a gate to Ka'ark space open up. The inhabitants decide that they can't fight the Ka'ark but somehow work out what the Ka'ark want.
They then set about helping the Ka'ark. When the Ka'ark realise this, they stop harrassing the Humans/whatever, even protecting them. In time, a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship between the two species develops.
Now, a gate to the rest of the network opens up. The inhabitants desperately want to protect their Ka'ark/Human society and behave to the outside world much as Ka'ark do.
Anyone brave enough to interact with this society might gain surprising revelations concerning the Ka'ark. Also, there is the dream of Ka'ark technology integrated with Terran/Commonwealth systems.

Re: What happened to Goners?
I've always seen the Alliance of the Word as our new Goner faction. They are all about a belief system, it's just completely grounded in reality - the hope of revelation of the Gate technology to reverse a future Dark. It's a sacred mission, it just doesn't have gods or temples in it.
