Please fix in 7.60 that Hyperion is destroying own repair drones

Post by -=FL=- UniversE »

Since one of the goals of 7.60 is to "to refine and optimize your playing experience", I think it would greatly optimize the playing experience for the Hyperion DLC if the (ship design?) bug gets fixed, that repair drones are launched (or at least move) in front of the main batteries.

Since repair drones (in contrast to cargo drones) cannot be ordered to withdraw (at least not with any method I can identify in the UI), once they feel it's time to repair (even with 30+ Xenon Fighters around), they are pretty much dead and need to be replaced.

For a quick bug fix I propose to improve that repair drones don't move in front of the main batteries (of any ship) when in combat.

For some future update I propose to add menu options to disarm / recall repair drones, just like you can do it with the other drones.

How about reporting it in the Public Beta Feedback forum, as requested in the news announcements about the Public Beta, along with the information requested at the top of that forum? In this case a link to a savegame showing what you're describing would save a lot of time.

CBJ, the issue he is describing is that repair drones on hyperion fly on shooting path of one of its main guns. So you shoot while being repaired and you have a dead drone. Capturing it via a save is very difficult. A video could be doable.

I think this applies to any ship. Last couple of days I have been watching how the Erlking performs v Xenon stations and the drones launched in defence of the station, kitted out with 18 Repair drones and a good full compliment of Service crew.

I see a lot more Repair drone casualties as a result of friendly fire than enemy fire, and quite frequently have to restock. The Erlking L turrets seem to be pretty good at making repair drones go poof.

Could Repair drones be made immune to friendly fire?. Probably a bit unrealistic though if that was implemented. In the heat of a battle we can expect casualties.
So another option would be to only release Repair drones if the all clear is sounded .. But then they wouldn't be helping you to recover turrets for example during an attack (which is quite often valuable if one turret can swing the balance of your own survivability), and maybe releasing them just before an attack happens would they be able to retreat in time if there is a scripted loop going on getting them out on task.

I think its probably a tough call on trying to get them to preserve themselves better.

Personally I think they are probably better left alone as is, surviveability needs to be random in a chaotic battle environment, and the help they give towards winning the battle is sometimes crucial that they are out there in the thick of it, dodging our own bullets aswell as enemies.

I mentally just lay a wreath for Huey, Dewey, and Louie in space (anyone remember an old Sci Fi film called "Silent running" will know the relevance of those names) :).

Or the player could be allowed to control repair drones and decide when to release them.

Hyperion is a bit different from other ships, because that's the only vessel where repair drones fly in front of main gun. Like they literally path in front of 2nd turret from the right.

Regarding the Hyperion specifically, the issue has been reported by numerous players and is somewhat trivial to reproduce by anyone. Simply equip a Hyperion with repair drones, then inflict damage to its hull such that the drones activate. Once the drones are active, take control of the ship and hold down the primary fire input. With all six main batteries firing, it will be just a matter of moments before a repair drone is "one-shotted" to destruction. Continue firing and ALL repair drones will be destroyed before long.

This friendly fire occurs intermittently with other ships, but nothing comes close to the degree of frequency and severity of the Hyperion due to the positioning and firepower of its main batteries in relation to the repair drones.

Combined with the issue regarding AOE damage amplification against its shields (again due to the positioning of the six main batteries), flying the Hyperion during intense combat is sometimes ruined and disappointing.

Aren't you supposed to post in public beta forum, only when you are playing the public beta?

I am talking about things that are broken in stable branch, which you might want to address in the next release :)

I second that.

Maybe a menu dropdown option/toggle/tickbox with the option "stay docked".

An option to recall at any time would also be cool.

Good idea, have them with a couple of settings, auto or manual launch and for the latter mode a configurable key to launch them.
