Question : Teladi Defense Disk Turret "L" Grouping only 1x 10 ?

Hi all,

quick question about the Teladi Defense Disk. While the Argon Disk has 16 L-Turrets which are grouped 4x4, the Teladi Defense Disk (in my installation) only has a 1x 10 Grouping. Is this vanilla ? Feels a bit strange.

The only mod i have that should change structures is the VRO, and i think i have reworked all changes it makes in regards to turrets, i just kept the increased hull strength. Can't imagine any other mod that does something. It's a bit of a dumb setting to only have 1 Turret Type per Disk, especially since the Bridge module has a proper grouping. If it's vanilla, i would try to change that.

Would appreciate a quick confirmation here that vanilla is 1x10 , before I start a search for 2 hours.... Thanks in advance

The L group does appear to be all 10 turrets and 4 shields, yes. Couldn't say why. Never use Teladi discs personally as they seem objectively worse than Argon ones, with no redeeming feature of any sort.

True, unmodded they are really inferior. It's just that i started a new game and wanna role play as teladi, so no argon modules for me But thanks for the info, might dig into the files and figure out how to create groups, maybe 2x3 and 2x 2.

Prefer how the Teladi Disk looks compared to many of the other defence modules & for that reason alone, have frequently used them in preference to their counterparts with more turrets. Anyway it's a defence module, I can build as many of them as I like to get the level of defence I require. The strange grouping does have one distinct advantage. Means all 10 L turrets are protected by 4 L shields, whereas each 4 L turret group on the Argon disk is only protected by 1 L shield each & is therefore more susceptible to subsystem damage.

I don't think that has any practical value really. Can't think of a single time I've seen a defence platform successfully stripped of turrets that wasn't either half built to begin with, or something I inflicted with specifically tailored ships. And some of those shoot through shields anyway, so if the AI did ever field them in meaningful concentrations they'd render it even less useful.
