I love the new feature where if one of my ships is destroyed, some space suits spawn so that I may rescue some of the crew.
What hilariously keeps happening however is that, in large battles with Xenon, some of my small ships get wreckd, and then immediately comm me to let them know that they found an abandonned ship (being a xenon ship made abandonned as part of the battle).
So, now, my spacesuit crew is protecting an abandonned ship and dying from lack of oxygen, instead of, you know, getting into the said ship.
So my suggestion is to allow crew in spacesuits to claim nearby ships as an alternative to dying.
Suggestion: spacesuit rescue to abandonned ships

Would make sense I guess... if that's how we claim one, why shouldn't they do it? Although I feel like you'd never want to set this as the default response because if they do it during battle you'd probably lose them and the ship.

Player character has five stars in all skills. When normal NPC claims a ship he/she will damage the hull, badly, and often destroy some of the equipment. So in a battle it'll be blown up immediately.
I'd prefer escape pods instead of suits, just like NPCs do it.

I don't really see the point of that damage. Somehow it only happens in S/M ships, not even while actively fighting another crew, and for what? To punish us for not parking a spacesuit next to a blinking light for a few seconds? It should not even exist.

But it's not actually worth that. High skill marines take quite some time/investment to come by. In using them for this you're neither bypassing a high-skill activity nor achieving a particularly valuable reward that would justify it.
The progression is more like do it yourself initially and then not care about the damage because repairing and re-equipping the ship is trivial. There is never a case at any point where I'd see some abandoned PE or what-have-you and want to go find a decent marine.

Those explosions seem to destroy equipment with mods. So if you're hunting that one BUC ship, you'd want to claim it yourself because of this mechanic, or have a five star.

There's no real need to get a marine for that at all. The ships are rare to begin with, and spend most of their time disguised, so chances are if one bails you were right there bailing it. Especially given their morale tends to be quite high. But they also spawn, so I just blow them away and pick up the bits, then go find a new one.

Err... I believe you're thinking on generic BUC ship and not the one I meant.
Blowing ship up destroys portion of its mods. Especially engine mods. So you'd want to chase, cap it, and cap it personally or with a five star, then dismantle mods.

Nah, I've had Promethei take quite literally half an hour of following it around poking it to bail. They are obnoxious. Even if it lowers the odds of engine mods, it's just so much quicker to kill them and find another. And that was when I had to go looking for them because I couldn't use satellites... now I guess you can build a WSA in each sector they spawn.
But in any case, there's no particular cause to use a marine for it. The one advantage they have is that you don't have to be there and do it personally, and maybe that would matter if you're picking up a fleet of PE's at a gate camp, but for something that already demands you to be there and manually bail it, the few seconds it takes to transfer ownership is minuscule.
