7.5 CTD Map view is blank, crashes when opening ship editor

Post by ELLIOTTCABLE »

I've got a good bit of game instability on my machine.

When I first installed the game, I wrote up a post about this; but while reading the troubleshooting instructions, I updated my graphics driver, the problems seemed to go away in one specific situation: if I played in traditional fullscreen, with all additional monitors disconnected (only one display attached.) I assumed it was a driver-age problem, and proceeded to play for a day or two.

However, now, the behaviour is back; and I can no longer find a workaround - disconnecting other displays doesn't help; neither fullscreen nor windowed exhibits any difference.

Symptoms:
  • Most notably, the map is ... empty. All the UI is there, I can "interact" with it (scrollwheel clearly still 'zooms out', as more entries appear in the left entity-list); but there's no actual map:

  • Trying to interact with a ship-editor (upgrades, buy a new ship, etc) seems to reliably crash to desktop. (I can't believe I had to login to Google to post this file ... maybe enable file-uploads on your technical-support website? -_- https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QyuXNH ... e-GgH/view)
  • This has always occurred, since I installed the game, with both driver-versions, if i try and play in windowed / windowed-fullscreen modes.
I am no longer able to play the game at this point, and I've been in-game juuuust too long to request a Steam refund. Oof. /=

Your DxDiag Windows Error reporting is full of LiveKernelEvent issues which are almost always system hardware or device driver issues rather than game code. No actual X4 issues are reported there.

You are also vulnerable to the Intel 13/14 gen cpu plus powerful graphics card random CTD issue that is quite common and usually ends up with a cpu RMA or at minimum a BIOS update if available. X4 is just the stressor that exposes such pre-existing hardware weaknesses, especially once the DLCs are added in.
