Player owned sector governor

Post by vertauris »

I wonder if Egosoft ever considered adding some kind of sector governor. I find myself pointless of claiming sectors myself since i rather ally with one of the factions and let them do all the policy patroling and station bulding which actually benefits me more as i can adapt to thier economy and make money out of it.

I was thinking of maybe adding a possibility of assigning a sector governor lets say a "manager" for sectors that can take into consideration nearby sectors market based of star level and local resources (ore/gas) and build simple stations either himself or from my blueprints, build patrol/policy fleets from my own or AI wharfs to populate my own sectors. maybe at least choose a designation for a sector like focus on basic materials, food production, advanced tech or full defense sector if its a border with enemy. we could tranfer money which he can spend same as we do for stations.

This would encourage me to actually claim sectors for myself if i could automate at least a portion of populating it. Especially with the planned diplomacy addition to the game for which i cant wait :)

Any similar ideas came to your mind?

Kinda feels like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist tbh. That kind of thing makes some sense in games like Stellaris* since you have a higher level of things to manage, and smaller things like sectors and planets are added micro that take time from that. In X4 that's just not really a thing. Adding a manager to sectors wouldn't make them meaningful unless what's going on in sectors needed managing to begin with.

*and the AI for it has never really been very good in that game.

I rather support favorite NPCs to gain maximum control like food for all or easily accessible retreat place Shipyard or EQ dock. The thing which is annoying for me is that if by any reason no NPC defense platform exist the ownership transfer to me if i have some similar presence...
However this is my first EGO game where I cheat. You can jump in and out any factory/base but if you do so the plot will reset itself to default alignment which then can mess up my sun facing solar power plants. I wish for some representative then to "gift" a sector to an NPC faction.
X to X3 is MENU SUPERIOR!
I think Egosoft has already worked out our doom, because Xenon AI will reach the stars! :D

It sounds good at least to me as I've had similar ideas. You can for example siege stations and board them like in Spacebourne2. That would be a good addition even if it's like ships and uneventful. Much of the feeling of running things seems to be handled by mods. The UPB mods allow some customization of what NPCs you have. They also do fleet replenishment. Vanilla just added this as well to some degree. Dynamic Wars are for dynamic feeling, and relationship/diplomacy changes. It's all sorta there already. It might be too much for Ego to handle. I can see them possibly including some of these in a newer iteration of the X series though. I was surprised they got around to adding FSR/DLSS. Kinda cool.
