Once again trying to build my HQ & becoming infuriated by the zones which prevent building. Specifically I'm attempting to place an S/M fabrication bay so I can get on with some terraforming. Game will not let me build it near my HQ: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/tw4q9v4r ... xsd6d&dl=0
Don't see any particular reason why the build prevention zone for HQ needs to be so huge. Appears to be a vast zone all around HQ for a considerable distance which specifically prevents placement of this critical module & it's bloody annoying. There are no obstacles anywhere near the position shown in the screenshot that might cause issues for docking ships, but it won't let me build there or anywhere higher (was hoping to tuck it in neatly just below the T pier).
Really wish there was an option, similar to allow module overlap, which would let me turn this annoying 'feature' off (along with the similar zones around docks etc). I am capable of building stations that ensure good access to the docks without it.
[Request] Option to turn off build prevention zones for docks, fabrication bays, HQ, etc

This has been requested before, and I generally agree we should be able to turn it off. Maybe have a 'do this at your own peril' pop up, but there are definitely cases where I know I can build within the bounds of it (or overlap them a bit) without interfering with docking, so it would have its uses.

Must admit some of those requests were mine. Try not to make this request too often (don't want to be a pest about it), but in almost every game I've played there's always been a point where I wanted to build something & the game simply wouldn't let me. If the game's being particularly frustrating I make the usual request in the hopes that this time perhaps the devs might do something about it.
For the most part I really enjoy the station building in X4, it's one of my favourite parts of the game. Have derived a huge amount of enjoyment building some ridiculously huge, overly elaborate stations. I'm greatly impressed by the scale of the structures that X4 is capable of. On my machine 3k module stations are just about viable (albeit with rather low fps).
However, from time to time that enjoyment is very much spoiled when I have to compromise the design I was working on due to the restrictions on building in certain locations such as near docks. Particularly annoying when I'm absolutely certain that the few pixels I've intruded into the restricted zone will make absolutely no difference whatsoever to docking.

I personally don't understand why the L and XL fabrication and maintenance yards require full-length, unobstructed "drive-thru" lanes which cut through the entire station plot. Nothing can be placed behind L/XL build modules unless the build modules are placed along plot edges/corners and tilted at awkward angles.
Whereas fully built L and XL ships are able to dock at and disembark from all manner of piers without needing the extra runway, the same ships somehow completely lose maneuverability when undergoing construction, refitting, or repair. At least that's the conclusion implied by the L/XL build modules.

Agree - L/XL fabrication & maintenance are among the worst offenders in this regard. They're such big modules too so can have a significant impact on the overall aesthetics of a station, which makes them all the more annoying if they can't be placed where intended.stooper88 wrote: ↑Fri, 28. Anyway, frustrations continue at my HQ. Decided a ring of Paranid domes set into the rim of my HQ might be neat idea, however it's T piers had different ideas:

Ended up having to remove them & started replacing them with E piers, which was a great pity since I definitely preferred the look of those T piers.
Although then hit another snag, HQ doesn't like the position of one of the new piers:

Does building docks etc really have to be so frustrating? Does it add anything to the game (other than a source of profound irritation) for it behave this way?
