[Feedback/Request] Make old hull part/claytronics recipe available

Post by vvvvvvvv »

I remember the reasoning for this change before. NPC economy stagnates.

The practical result, however, is that it became more difficult to self-build, and there's even more incentive to shift away from default recipes towards Terran or Closed Loop. It also does not make much sense that one building somehow uses completely different materials from everything else. It is like one building facility in real world would suddenly require a medieval blacksmith and couldn't be done with modern tech.

The recipe could be made available as part of closed loop economy, or a new category of "compatibility" recipes could've been made. This was already done with teladi before. NPC don't have to use the recipe either.

I have yet to try out the new economy in full, but don't think I have had any serious issues in 7.10 with lack of hull parts or claytronics, so... Probably would have preferred to have the old recipe just for simplicity. I wonder if at least this could be added as a custom closed loop via modding?

Well imagine that an amish blacksmith is REQUIRED to build a rocket. Or, better yet, a microchip. And without him the construction cannot proceed at all, and that requirement cannot be bypassed by all modern science. That's the feeling.

I'm playing a new save, previously you could quickly offload hull plates to local production and at least reduce good chunk of the load. No hull factory no longer uses normal components and relies on advanced composites and plasma conductors to be built. So for the same "offload" effect the only option is scrap mechanics and those always were a bit odd.

I think having the old recipe be available as a "closed loop" option for build method of hull parts and claytronics modules, while keeping the current 7.5 method requiring plasma conductors and advanced composites as the default build method, would be a good compromise. The player could then have a choice in case advanced composites and plasma conductors are scarce and hull parts and claytronics are abundant.
