Couple of Fleet AI Suggestions

Post by InfraredEcho »

Hello EgoSoft and players,

I have recently moved back onto a vanilla playthrough after messing around with mods for a while and the shift back to vanilla has made me realise there are some mods that add some outstanding QOL stuff that i personally feel would be great additions to the vanilla game particularly in the fleets area.

- Auto docking S/M ships to no carrier motherships.
Reference Mod https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... =auto+dock
For those not familiar with this mod, it basically allows you to setup any ship that has a landing pad, to have its subordinates automatically dock with the ship when not engaged in some other mission (sub's set to defend will dock when not engaging an enemy). Further to this, it would be nice to be able to set it up so that each sub-fleet or group, could be set. So some groups would auto dock and some would remain in space.

- Fleet managers/Auto-replacement of destroyed ships in fleet
Reference Mod https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... et+manager
For those not familiar with this mod, the primary use of this mod is to manage the replacement of destroyed ships within the fleet. If your like me, you have a carefully crafted hierarchy of ships with varying loadouts and orders. If (when) your fleet takes even minor losses (say 15 or so ships of varying sizes roles and loadouts) the replacement process can be very tedious. Basically this mod will manage that process automatically as required.

- Basic fleet controls.
No reference mod for this but simply a small feature that would be nice, but mostly for aesthetics.
-the primary aspect of this, is an option to select (or maybe a slider) the distance between ships in a formation, when you have a large fleet with varying ship sizes, it seems odd to see the small ships space themselves out at similar distances to large ships, not to mention the ability to have S/M ships stay within the gravity lock range of a L/XL ship just seems natural.

- Approach vector selection.
No reference mod for this but simply a small feature that would be nice. I feel like ive seen a mod that does something like this but cant remember it or find it.
-not all ships are the same, not all ships have the same loadout, not all ships have the same purpose. But as far as i can tell, all ships share a similar approach vector when engaging enemies only being effected by the range of their weapons. Simply being able to tell ships to encircle rather than approach, or to strafe before exiting engagment range of the target then repeat.

- Formation orientation
No reference mod for this but simply a small feature that would be nice.
-You see this in almost every modern RTS, right click and drag to set a selection group to arrange themselves from a point to face a specific direction, i dont think this one need much explaining.

Now yes, some of these suggestions have mods, but i dont feel like mods that do things such as this should lock one out of getting achievements or budgeted start progression. which is the simple reason im suggesting they would be good additions to the core game.

Apologies for putting multiple suggestions in one post but i did feel like they were all in the same category and didnt want to spam post.

this is in the game as of 7.5
Fixed ships getting spawned away from ship configuration menu at resupply ships from automatically getting deployables.
