Is it intended that you can't assign military fleets to stations?

I'm asking because you can assign military subwings fine, but military fleets don't light up the assignment rightclick menu. It's an exclusion that doesn't make a lot of sense with a workaround to assign structure anyway.

When you have selected fleet commander right click the station and choose "Defend commander" as that will assign fleet under station manager's command.

Yes, I've tried to do that and the menu's a no-show. Don't know if it's intended.

Did the fleet happen to have lost ship replacement on?
I just did a quick check, and fleets with that on cannot be assigned. Fleets with that off can be assigned, or at least the option is there, I didn't want to mess up my fleets.

There was a thing in beta too where commanders with ship replacement on and yet lost all their ships somehow would then basically be soft locked from being assigned to anything until it's turned off. Which as you can tell is a little difficult when you can't even see that anymore.
So I guess, until it's addressed, unless you're planning to scrap the fleet commander, clean it properly before you unassign things. Turn off ship replacement first, since thankfully Egosoft at least gave us that little wrench icon.

Erm... What does "clean it properly" mean in this context? Can anything bad happen when you just disable the ship replacements and the assign the fleet to a station? Or it's just another click you have to do and nothing can go wrong?

The latter. Though it might be a good idea to also remove all orders and assignments.
