Manually selected materiel should imprint the ship

For missiles, laser towers and such. A trade order for how many items are assigned to a ship and how many are present, updated when the ship is built and changed when manually outfitted by the player or AI. Ships should remember how many resources they are set up with and resupply to fill in gaps. The data would be stable for automatic resupply because the data would duplicate if not changed. Also could work with crew - the ship remembering how many crew and crew types, filling in less skilled crew if no skilled crew are available.

This does not need blueprint imprintation and would just work.
