Our ships should have a Reset to Factory Settings command to deal with bugs

Post by Raptor34 »

For example, the recent beta introduces lost ship replacement, it has, or maybe had, an issue where commanders with it active but have lost all their subordinates, now have an INVISIBLE setting to replace lost ships, which blocks them from being assigned to new commanders.

So I propose a new right click command, located where you remove all orders and assignment, which is called Reset to Factory Settings, which lore wise does exactly what it says, pretend whatever bugs are computer bugs or whatever. How it'll work is basically cleanse the ship of all leftover scripts and everything, the ships should be the same as a ship newly ordered from a shipyard. And then it redownloads our global orders if that matters.

They should just focus on making "remove all orders and assignments" do the factory reset as you suggest.

I haven't checked if that bug still exists (the one where a former fleet commander, stripped of its subordinates while the lost ship replacement order was active, can now no longer be assigned as a subordinate). If it isn't fixed, and somebody hasn't posted a new bug report, I'll provide a new bug report to bug Egosoft and hope the relevant dev sees and responds to it.

It seems like the devs have stopped reading the "lost ship replacement" thread in the beta feedback forum though.

I mean, why not. But sometimes you want to keep behavior settings maybe.
What I'm looking for is a full purge that doesn't need to bother with keeping any settings remaining. Just in case you know, you start programming in exceptions it starts bugging out again. I think a clean purge should be the least likely to leave something behind.
