X4 red/orange lighting hue

Post by Panos »

Dear Egosoft,

I know that might be not possible for X4 as this late stage, but consider on X5 to give us the option for a cool white/blue lighting across everything.
That red/orange colour found everywhere, (except in Terran stations, ships and handful of sectors) is annoying no matter the filters. I play the game for 6 years and one of the reasons stopped 2 years ago (even if bought all the DLCs) is because starter feeling sick. Have tried several Reshade profiles also to change the lighting colour but to no vain.

The colour filters at the settings doesn't change the red/orange hue either. I know can sit down and mod every single spaceship light colours but with my limited free time the only thing can do it try train Agent Zero to do the job digging through the files. But to make an AI agent to learn to dig through the unpackaged files takes time too and without knowing the EULA if you allow cloud hosted LLM to dig through with an Agent the source files, staying clear.

Again thank you very much. :)

Panos.

I installed reshade to have a look and I think you can definitely do that. When prompted to choose from a list of options during install look for one with "colour isolation". I think the author was "Daodan" or something.

During the tutorial add that to the profile you make for X4 and give it a target hue of 235, hue overlap of 0.001, and curve steepness of 2.

Doing that got me a situation where red isn't totally removed from the game but is extremely desaturated. From there you can just tweak it to whatever level of strength you want.

A further note: you can pair this with "retrotint", remove the default red it starts with, and use it to add some minor green and blue tint to the game to fill in the lower saturation left behind by colour isolation (if you want the game to still be colourful but more blue/cyan).

Cheers. Will give it a try tonight.

OK, I have a try with your settings and looks very off. Without retrotint looked like black & white, with retrotint looked dark blue. :gruebel:

So decided to use the SilverScreenX4_v1 Gameplay but removed most of the settings. Kept CAS.FX, Prod80 Midtones Highlights, Adaptive Fog, prod80 02 Cinetools with their default settings. The game looks way better than vanilla and less red.

Thank you :)

Huh, weird. Those settings for me desaturated the red only, and then added a slight blue tint over the top. Glad you found one that works anyway.
