Questionalble AI

Post by vpelss »

What I don't get is sometimes my pilots will respect the distance from station turrets, other times they just fly up to them commit suicide.... Same with attacks on capitol ships. Kamikaze mode?

That should really be fixed. I shouldn't have to babysit every attack on a station...

Also why can my Big ships not attack Build Storage after I take down a station or collect drops?

Seems like a no brainer.

Moderator: If we can't post to old posts, because "so much has changed", maybe those posts should be deleted? I am pretty sure all the AI is not 100%. So still relevant.

Should be improved with the next beta update. Feedback would be good if you're inclined to give it a try later this week.

The one remaining case that I've found, they try to get to a better position from which they can shoot, but their path can bring them close to the target station and they stop mid-way when they're most vulnerable. With the improvement, their chances of flying all the way through should be a lot better.

Trickier against other capital ships since those targets can move so there's a chance that the end position will be invalid by the time they get there. With the update, they should exert more effort to get to that end position quickly (well, quick for a capital ship) to mitigate that.

Yes I think the following is the case.

Any way to code in 'don't get within a danger radius of a station'? That is probably harder than it sounds to code.

I have been watching how (lone) NPC PAR and ARG destroyers systematically erase Xenon stations -- even Shipyards. They don't seem to have any trouble in staying at range.

I really hope that they would occasionally suicide. Now I have to get rid of them.

Would it be possible to have pilots utilize boost to get out of range faster if they do happen to stray too close and start taking fire?
With 7.5 making capital ship boost much better that's actually a valid option now to safe a ship that starts taking graviton fire, but even high-skill pilots don't seem to utilize it.

They are indeed very conservative with boost usage in 7.10 due to shield drain (which makes me wonder about the repeated comments about ships "boosting their shields away"). Boost (and travel) usage in combat already improved here, just waiting for the next beta update to push it out unless we have to cut it last minute due to something unforeseen.

Just for clarification... Do I understand it correctly, that starting with 7.50 own NPC controlled capital ships will try hard(er) to get clear of Graviton Turret's line of fire? At lest when they have some (maybe 3?) stars?

Imho that was always game breaking that NPCs never knew when it's time to retreat. I don't mind that Xenon K are OP and scary, but I always found that I was the only one scared by them and NPC pilots just yolo'ed into their death.

When this is fixed with 7.50, that is actually really huge.
