So I was testing a new ship with anti-ship missiles. I put it together and sent it to Xenon space.
I noticed that there were about six Xenon destroyers sitting on the other side of the gate in Tharka Crusade and I order the captain to enter though the south gate.
On the way, the Terrans are attacking a Xenon station and my ship, an Argon destroyer will pass close by.
To my surprise the four missile launchers open up on it. I had them to set for capital ships only. But I guess that stations count as capital ships.
Good test as we finish all the station in the pass.
We jump in and the destroyers are closer than I would care for them to be.
The caption for her effort opens up with missiles on the capital ships. Which are still outside of their weapons range.
She also opened up on the fighters to.
I had ordered her path so she would only go in, then turn around and leave. That's why I didn't do anything when she asked about being attacked.
As it would only have confused her.
So I am thinking that she is going to follow the course, turn around and come back.
But NOOOOOO!
She decides that she want to take on six destroyers with one. I'm thinking that she saw too many girl hero movies and was auditioning to be the main character. She ends up charging them. To make matters worse, she stops firing here missiles. Not sure why as she had almost six hundred of them.
Well, she didn't get the part but at least she made it into the credits as ship scrap number one. lol
On a good note, I got credit for going though a jump gate in a spacesuit.
Ramboette thought she could take on the Xenon fleet.

Unfortunately when it comes to avoiding combat, the AI shoots itself in the foot. Getting the "I'm under attack" message means the ship will make a choice about what to do, which takes it away from its current orders. In my experience by the time they comm you about an attack, they are significantly damaged, so the choice is always 'flee' unless you order it to attack. But flee is not always safer than carrying out its orders, especially for large ships. One of the options is to do nothing, which lets you give it orders again, but it was designed terribly and only counts until the next hit the ship takes... then it starts to flee again. Essentially they are locked in this idiotic state until death.
Basically, for what you are trying to do here, I'd only recommend flying the ship yourself.

Yeah and they don't normally flee in the right direction. Normally they choose the worst way to go.
That's if you do have the option to tell them to flee.
Often times, I don't even see that listed.

If you just want your ships to continue their orders even when attacked set their response to attacks to "ignore".
Quite useful for most capitals (which are usually too slow to flee anyway) and their turrets will still fire.

That's a good idea, thanks.blackphoenixx wrote: ↑Mon, 20. Jan 25, 13:05 If you just want your ships to continue their orders even when attacked set their response to attacks to "ignore".
