Keep Getting "Unauthorized Kill" Messages re: faction I have good relations with

Post by JJRSC »

I have been getting messages that something in my organization is shooting down Ministry of Finance ships though I have +11 rep with them (was +14 before this started). Thinking it was leftover lasertowers (and maybe it is?) I detonated all the leftover lasetowers I had in 18 Billion and Grand Exchange, and that stopped it, for a bit. But it is now happening again. And why any of my ships or lasertowers would be shooting at MIN ships doesn't make sense because we have good relations.

Anyone have any suggestions what may be happening, and, even better, what to do about it? Thank you!

Check out Your stations in allied factions sectors. It might be that some police went mad and started attacking it. I lost all my stations in Argon Prime due to that.

Open map and to top right corner filtering field type:
enemy
and press enter. This will filter map so you will see only ships & stations which are your enemies.
Then look Teladi sectors do you see any hostile ships in there from Ministry.

If any of your ships have reason or another triggered alert (e.g. due they changed sector while police was initializing scan) it takes awhile to cooldown. During that period your ships & stations can shoot hostile targets even if you have good overall reputation with them.
Another possibility is pirates (e.g. Scale Plate) have made harrassment to your ship, turned to hostile and then changed identity to friendly faction. As ship stays hostile your ships or stations can attack against it and cause reputation loss (pirate harrassments can be checked from logbook entries using word pirate).

If you want more specific assistance to figure out what's going on in your game it will help if you inform which game version you are playing, what DLCs are enabled, possible used mods and upload your save file to public reputable sharing site where someone can download it and have a look. Without save it's only possible give generic advices and guesses.

I spend as much (or more) time looking at the map as I do piloting ships, and I constantly use the search bar and filter options for planning and managing orders. And I never knew THIS was possible. :o

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING THIS :!:

Okay thank you. I tried all of this and the only enemy ships on the map were some Kha'ak and a couple Xenon (I'm late game and the Xenon are almost gone.) I also found you can type "ministry" into the search field and it will filter out everything except Min of Finance ships and stations, which was handy. Still, none of them were red or ever turned red. I reloaded several times but never saw where a MIN ship was destroyed, let alone destroyed by me, but I still got the notifier that I killed a min ship in the ticker. So haven't found an answer there. This all started when I invaded VIG, I am wondering if that somehow triggered a glitch that set this off. This also happened to me with FAF, but we were already enemies, so I didn't think much of it.

As for the game specifics, version, dlcs, etc., good point - it has been a while since I have asked for help on the forum and I forgot. Am playing ver 7.10, which actually made the game more janky for me after all the great fixes that happened with ver 7.0. Have all the DLCs enabled. As for mods, that's a good question, the automatic "workshop mod download" thing was active when I started playing, unbeknownst to me, so it looks like I have some small mods installed through that, though I have not noticed any glaring differences in play, except for the modified tag.

Unless anyone has any other ideas, I will probably have to post a save game to the Tech Support Forum. Thanks for your help.

Check via logbook when was the last unauthorized kill happened. As in 7.x there can be long backlog with messages shown in small display if you have plenty of messages enabled via global settings and have had map open longer period.

I tried reduce messages by unchecking (personally) useless ones. I have only reputation, kill and credits related ones in use which are shown in small screen.

MIN uses S couriers camouflaged as VIG to infiltrate VIG space. Your ships killing those is probably what causes the rep loss.

To get around the issue you can simply give your combat ships fire override orders to not shoot at VIG civilian ships unless attacked first ("honorable" iirc, but i may be misremembering).

This makes a lot of sense. I have seen "VIG Ravens" flying around and have wondered where VIG got Ravens from, but that may be what is happening. I will check this out. Thank you!

This is actually pretty cool, and immersive, the way one faction is trying to spy on another. It's a nice touch by the devs. Just wish it didn't come with possible collateral damage to the player. :|

So it turns out this is exactly what was happening... I spotted some of my fighters on patrol go to destroy a VIG Raven but was able to stop them. However, since the last update, I cannot set global orders (there are two options, "Honorable" and "Chivalrous" that will spare an enemy's civilian ships) whenever I do - whether it's a sector boycott or trade boycott, or fire override - my ships (and shipyards) just ignore the order so it looks like I will have to post to the Tech Support forum for that :sceptic: .

We would need a blacklist where you can directly forbid ships/pilots to always ignore a certain type of ship and thus not attack it, even if it is -30 in the friend or foe identification.

For example, if you don't want Xenon S or the Teladi Raven to be attacked by players or Stations, you can put them on a blacklist.
the only disadvantage would be that if they attack the station or ship, they would not fire back.

The setting options ‘Honourable’ and ‘Chivalrous’ only seem to work up to about -25, after that they don't seem to work anymore.
