I re-started my game for the X-th time (I teeter between ginormous goodie two-shoes navy and unsociable pirate playthroughs), and this time I felt I needed to limit myself somewhat, to keep things interesting longer... Not really sure how yet (but I think I'll just go for no buying of ships or resources, all piracy, all the time, hand pick crews, no mass-hiring, that sort of stuff: TAKING SUGGESTIONS!)...

So during one of the quests in the beginning of "Stranded" I spied a Demeter Sentinel, which I like for its hold vs speed ratio... so I decided to try and make it bail, after which I found myself flying over there in my space suit with police closing in from all sides. Once I got in and boosted through the gate and onwards to freedom, I noticed that there were prisoners on board... never had that before! It turns out that you can assign them to your own ship, which I did... I had my first crew! RP wise this was pure gold (I thought), even more so when all six of them turned out to be Yaki. Five veteran marines (3 1/2*) and one elite marine (4*). Either I'm the luckiest of bastards, and this is a sign that the pirate life *IS*, if fact, for me... or this is a new feature/bug/feature brought by the open beta. Anyone ever have this before?

Yaki had spotted that ship and sent marines to claim it.
Because you were faster and got the ship first those marines became your prisoners.
That have been in the game most probably since 4.0 (Cradle DLC) but I notoced it in 5.10hf3b.

It was a Paranid owned M-Ship though, can't board that...

Yaki have different behaviour compared to other pirate factions in the game. Others like Scale Plate don't care from abandoned ships (where crew have bailed out).
When Yaki spots such ship they can send Kuraokami (them are full of decent skilled marines) onsite and send marine crew to claim ship for the faction. Then they will take the ship to faction HQ and recycle it so they get new fighters for their own use.
So if you attacked to that Paranid M-freighter and caused their crew to bail out, Yaki saw their apportunity to get the ship which trigger to event you saw happening.
It have happened few times to me also in Getsu Fune when I was dealing with Terran ships. And once Yaki "stole" Cerberus Sentinel right front of my face when I was just approaching the data leak to get the ship for myself.

Hm... I'm fairly sure there was no interference from Yaki (or any of them even nearby) when it happened... but whatever happened, it's something has has happened to you before the beta was out, so it's not "new" in that regard. Good to know, and thanks for your response
