Be a refugee (feature request)

Post by thedavid »

This request is for the base game.

In budgeted game start we have the option to be Teladi, Paranid , or one of six Argon, three men and three women.

In the base game we do see some Split.

So, my request, can we add the ability to play as a Split refugee in the base game.

For that matter it would also be nice to be a Terran refugee wearing normal pants and a flight jacket but being listed as Terran instead of Argon. Maybe not all the Terrans were able to get back to Sol before the jumpgate shutdown.

Do you mean just having more split options?

What would you do as a refugee?

Isn't this just asking for more character customization right?

In a way this is just more customization but for immersion it is more than that.

If someone has only the base game and NO DLCs, then they will see some Split characters but they can't play as one. So we know that some Split were stuck on this side of the network schism and can not get back to Split space. They are refugees.

I'm not saying to create a new start scenario like "Young Gun" but you start as a split. I'm just saying that in custom game you can choose to be a Split character. I understand why you can't be a Boron, because Boso is the only one. I understand why you can't be Vig or Rip Tide. If you don't have those DLC then they shouldn't be in Argon Space yet. But we do see Split characters in Argon space even if the Split DLC is not available. So, I think it makes sense to be able to choose to be one.

Also, I assume some Terrans did not make it back to Sol before the jump gate network shut down. They obviously would not be wearing the white uniform that I detest so much but they would still be Terran. They would not consider themselves Argon. So I'd like the option to play as a Terran who happens to wear the Young Gun outfit. I think it would make sense for them.

As of right now, I have to play as an Argon and then just create my own head cannon that I'm really a Terran who is blending in because if I get discovered as being a Terran then I'll get arrested and "disappeared" by the Argon government. I can easily imagine the Argon government demanding that all the other factions send them all the Terrans they can round up so that bad things can be done to them. Maybe my character is the last one and that's why we don't see any.

Or, maybe we can get a Terran refugee available in custom game and then just know that not all the humans are full Argon and that some of them are descended from Terran refugees who got stuck.

Yeah, I was just wondering if you were asking for new starts or what.
But I would also like to see more customization too, at the very least to be able to pick the head and uniform separately. I kinda like some of these new QUE uniforms for instance. Which I'll note you still can't use, though more egregious is that there is a Pioneer start with their black uniform, but custom starts don't have that.
Other than that I don't see any reason to lock the player model behind DLCs, I think that's the least important bit of buying a DLC, so letting players choose them regardless of owning the DLC shouldn't hurt things much.
